Moodbidri: House burns down with goods - loss put at Rs 2 lac

Moodbidri, Jan 21: A house in Mittabail of Puthige village here caught fire and completely burnt down on Friday January 20. Owner of the house, Suresh Acharya, who does carpentry work, had gone out on work, when the tragedy occurred. Loss in this connection has been estimated at two lac rupees.

Roof of the house, furniture, television set and other electronic items inside the house turned into ashes due to fire. As the mother and sister of Acharya were outside the house then, none was injured. Short circuit is suspected to have caused this fire.

Immediately after fire broke out, a local, Vasudeva Nayak, called the fire brigade. Fire brigade personnel reached the spot after sometime and doused the flames. The locals also worked to extinguish the fire.

MLA, Abhay Chandra Jain, who met the distressed family and consoled its members, promised to sanction compensation from Chief Minister's Relief Fund. Zilla panchayat member, K P Sucharita Shetty and local panchayat member, Shashidhar Nayak, too offered to get assistance from the respective institutions.

Tahsildar, Muhammed Issac, revenue officials, and Mescom personnel visited the spot and assessed the loss.
