Mangalore, Dec 22: Noted personalities from various fields were on Sunday December 22 honoured at a splendid ceremony that marked the conclusion of the four-day cultural extravaganza Alva's Vishwa Nudisiri-Virasat-2013 at Vidyagiri in Moodbidri.

Dr H S Venkatesh Murthy, Dr D K Chowta, Hiremagalooru Kannan, Moodankoodu Chennaswamy, Fakir Mohammed Kattadi, Dr B M Hegde, Jayanth Kaikini, Dr Na Mogasale, Uma Kulkarni, Dr Kamala Hampana, Kumble Sundar Rao, Dr Hannibal Cabral from Karnataka Thelogical Society, H S Nagabushan from Shimoga Kannada Sangha were conferred the Alva's Vishwa Nudisiri-Virasat Awards.

Acknowledging the honour, Dr B M Hegde said, "Dr Mohan Alva is an institution in himself. He does everything in a unique manner. When a person does good work there are people who criticize and feel jealous, but Dr Alva does not lose anything by such criticism, instead his stature only rises higher. One can achieve success only if one has enthusiasm."

Litterateur Jayanth Kaikini presented his views about the importance of Alva's Vishwa Nudisiri-Virasat and said, "It is the duty and responsibility of litterateurs to visit a place were there are several students coming together for the purpose of sharing information. Culture should be like a swami who always wanders never remains static."

On this occasion Dr M Mohan Alva was felicitated by for his immense contribution to Alva's Vishwa Nudisiri-Virasat.

Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade in his address as the president of the event said, "This is a land of great poets and scholars who have served their motherland through their literary works. Dr Mohan Alva and I have this passionate thought that what we experience should also be experienced by others, and this is what makes us to do things in a unique way. Dr Alva has been planning this event since a year and it has not been an easy task. The work done by volunteers has set an example for all. It is very difficult to choose deserving achievers for awards but here it has been done very beautifully.

"Dr Alva is raising a new generation with good culture and enthusiasm. He is bothered about a few people who criticize him but not about the silence of lacs of people who praise him for his work. The criticism of a few is never equal to the silence of many good people," he added.

Union minister Dr M Veerappa Moily in his valedictory address said, "This Alva's Vishwa Nudisiri-Virasat programme can be termed as a miracle. It is very difficult to organize such a huge programme but Dr Alva has done it, and I can see a thousand minds of Dr Shivaram Karanth in him. The word “Siri’ is replete with the culture of Tulunadu. This Alva's Vishwa Nudisiri-Virasat has earned the attention of the world. Moodbidri has historical recognition but this event has brought more colour to Moodbidri. Criticisim is common but a person should acquire the capacity to be strong and move on. No criticism can kill the soul and creativity."

He further added, "Even attempt will be made to get Moodbidri the status of  World Heritage Site. Importance will be give to establish a rural university. We should act for the future and not stay with our past. Evolution of man happened through the cultural development too and not only by intelligence. Through poets and writers cultural equality can be achieved. We should move ahead to achieve success. Evolution is life, hesitation is death."

Dr Mohan Alva in his welcome address said, “As many as 80 units were formed for the purpose of Alva's Vishwa Nudisiri Virasat-2013. As we approached people they wholeheartedly supported us. Moreover, several offered many things for this huge programme including coconut, money, coffee powder and other things. I feel really happy that several senior people, like-minded individuals and students took part in this programme. It brought me great joy when I saw happiness in their eyes. Literature can never fall apart from language and culture, and all three go hand in hand.

"In future I will try to organize programmes without making them too expensive. I have never hurt anyone, even though a few resource persons have been criticizing me. Once you come and see this programme, talk with people, you will change your mind. Love and doubt can never go together. I think this is my duty and responsibility. When you criticize just come to me or write to me with your address, if write letters without address how can I respond to you? The credit for this event goes to several students, teachers, volunteers who took part in this programme wholeheartedly."

Dhanjay Kumar compered the programme.
