Thank you: Readers pour in Rs 11.26 lac for young Kiran

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Sep 9: Once again, Daijiworld readers have joined hands to rebuild yet another life, this time of nine-year-old Kiran Rahul Fernandes.

On August 13, daijiworld had put up an appeal before the readers to help Kiran, who had lost his leg due to snake bite and needed Rs 8 lac to meet medical expenses and get an artificial leg.

In less than a month's time, daijiworld readers pooled in a whopping Rs 11,26,760, much more than the amount estimated in the appeal.

It may be recalled that on Monday August 5, Kiran, son of Wilma, a housewife, and Terry Fernandes, a taxi driver from Thottam, Malpe, came home from school and told his mother that he had suffered a fall from a tree and then fainted. His head was injured severely and immediately he was admitted to KMC Hospital. When his leg started swelling, the doctors suspected that he might have been bitten by a snake, and administered an antidote. On August 8, Kiran’s right leg was surgically removed to save his life. After almost a month, he was discharged from hospital on September 6.

The month-long treatment in hospital cost his parents Rs 3, 25, 295. He will soon be provided with an artificial limb from the money received from daijiworld readers. After all the expenses, approximately Rs 5 lac is expected to remain, which will be invested in
fixed deposit and used for Kiran’s future.

A committee will be formed under the guidance of Fr Fredrick D'Souza to look after Kiran's expenses.

Kiran's parents, who could barely hide their joy at the prospect of seeing their son get a new lease of life, profusely thanked Daijiworld and the donors and well-wishers for extending their generous support with financial assistance as well as prayers in their time of need.

"It would have been impossible for us to treat our son if daijiworld readers hadn't come to our help at the right time," said Wilma.

“We express our deepest gratitude to all who stood by us in our bad times, and especially Daijiworld for publishing the appeal in their online media,” she added.

"Apart from readers of daijiworld, we would like to mention a few among all those who helped us in our difficulty. They are Onil D'Souza, Fr Fredrick D'Souza, parish priest, St Anne's Church, Thottam and parishioners, Sr Shanthi Teresa (HM), staff and students of Carmal English Medium School, Kemmanu, Fr Alban D'Souza, parish priest, Stella Maris Church, Kalmady and parishioners, and Fr Clement Mascarenhas of St Theresa’s Church, Kemmannu and parishioners. May god bless every person who has helped us and prayed for us," the couple said.

We at daijiworld once again thank and applaud our readers for coming together for a noble cause without any barrier or even a second thought. May your helping hand reach out to many more people in need and brighten many more lives.

The generosity of the Daiji patrons is commendable which has given a new hope to Kiran to lead a normal life of a young lad. This goes a long way in believing in the goodness of humanity that still exists inspite of the sordid events that we witness and hear about around us. While thanking the generous donors who made this possible, I pray that Almighty may bless Kiran and his family abundantly and should they get a chance, to reciprocate similar generosity to lesser fortunate ones. God Bless you Kiran.

Thank God he recovered from the mishap. He is too young to decide anything. Knowing his parents dignified in their own society it was a shock to the them and the parisheners to endure with. Some how he is compensated but the lost limb is a everlasting agony to his family and viewers. May God be merciful to the young and old as well.

Once again the Daijiworld readers have proved that there is no dearth of generosity among our people for a genuine cause. What I appreciate most is the transparency and integrity of the Daijiworld in appealing for and dealing with the donations received. God bless Kiran with a bright future in spite of his accidental handicap. Congratulations, Daijiworld, and best wishes for the continuation of your noble work.
