Mangalore : Lingappa Poojary(25) Battles Renal Failure, Mother to Donate Kidney

Mangalore, July 23, 2012

Thank You : Daijiworld Campaign for Lingappa Generates Rs 5.02 Lac in 8 Hours

Mangalore, Jul 23 : On Monday July 23 morning, when we made an online appeal for young Lingappa Poojary who needed immediate financial assistance for kidney transplantation, we never expected help would pour in so quickly.

We expected the required fund of Rs 4 lac to come in within 48 hours, but as soon as the appeal went online on Monday at around 11 am, support flooded in from all corners.

By 9 in the evening, approximately Rs 5.02 lac was pledged by generous readers from all over the world.

Lingappa Poojary (25)

While we thank all those who contributed for the cause, we assure that our team will follow up on Lingappa Poojary's treatment and will keep you informed.

We have generated over 5.2 crores of rupees through various appeals on daijiworld in the past 11 years, but this was the first time that we initiated an INSTANT online appeal to generate this fund, in the shortest possible time.

What impressed us the most was the fact that the donors' list had different names, but they were all from one single community, that is, HUMANITY.

May God bless us all. Though cases like Lingappa Poojary's are painful to hear, they bring us closer together, break away differences and take us forward towards a single goal, the goal to make someone's life better.

Thank you all.

Dear Readers,

We are presenting here an appeal for help, for a case which has been studied by our correspondents Naveen Menezes and Brijesh Garodi. On examination of the case, we realized that 25-year-old Lingappa Poojary needs IMMEDIATE financial assistance for kidney transplant.

On humanitarian grounds, we appeal to the readers to pledge your support online. Approximately Rs 4 lac is required for kidney transplant. We have attached an online form to pledge your support either by direct bank transfer, cheque, cash or any other form convenient to you.

Once you submit the form, we will verify and publish the name of the person along with amount on this page (you can withhold your name if you wish. We will put only initials). We will run this campaign for 48 hours, and if the desired amount is collected before that, we will close the campaign with gratitude.

For any clarification on the mode of payment, you may contact the following persons;

In India : Praveen - 0091-9980184340
In Dubai : Dayan D'Souza - 00971-50-6547235

Note :

1. Cheques, drafts etc should be addressed directly to the beneficiary (Lingappa Poojary). We will not accept any cheques, drafts etc in the name of DAIJIWORLD.

2. The form is only to pledge your support to the cause. The amount pledged may be sent to the beneficiary at a later date (within a week).

Thank you for your support.

Mangalore : Lingappa Poojary(25) Battles Renal Failure, Mother to Donate Kidney

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore

Mangalore, Jul 23: At 25, most people look to settle in life either with a good job or marriage. It is the turning point of one's life, where dreams learn to take flight and plans for the future get shaped.

Not so with Lingappa, who at 25, is battling a life-threatening ailment.

Son of Thimmappa and Yamuna Poojary, Lingappa is a resident of Addoor in the outskirts of the city and earns bread for the family as an electrician.

However, the kidney ailment has forced him to spend all his earnings and savings on his medical treatment. The ailment first affected him six years ago, and over the years worsened to such an extent that it became chronic and the doctors have advised him to undergo kidney transplantation at the earliest.

More importantly, until kidney transplantation, he has to attend dialysis sessions thrice a week, but due to poverty he manages to go only twice. "If not, his legs and face swell, and he begins vomiting," says Yamuna Poojary, his mother.

Close to Rs 2 lac has already been spent on dialysis and other treatment. The money has come not only from his savings, but also from sympathetic neighbours and his generous boss who continues to pay him the salary even though he cannot work regularly.

What is more heart-rending, his mother Yamuna (who is 50, but looks older) has voluntarily come forward to donate one of her kidneys for her son. She is certified medically fit for the donation. A good sum of money was also spent on her medical tests. In addition, the family is also struggling to go through the legal procedures, as prior to the donation, approval from Bangalore is required.

Initially, the family lived in a small hut. "Looking at our condition, Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Vamanjoor extended financial support to construct a small house. My father is a coolie and mother rolls bidis," Lingappa said while speaking to Daijiworld,
"I began earning for the family as an electrician soon after the completion of my ITI course."

He recalls, "I was very active in my primary school. The convent sisters sponsored my education seeing my desire to study and the poverty at home. Sometimes, on festive occasions, my teachers would even give me groceries, school books and clothes."

According to Dr Janaradhan Kamath of KS Hegde Hospital, Lingappa has end-stage renal failure due to chronic interstitial nephritis and will require renal replacement therapy in the form of either regular haemodialysis thrice weekly or renal transplantation.

The annual cost of treatment (haernodialysis and medications) would be approximately Rs 1.5 lac. The cost of kidney transplantation would be approximately Rs 4 lac in KS Hegde hospital.

As he comes from poor socio-economic background, financial assistance will help him immensely in continuing medical care, stated a letter from his doctor.

Those who wish to donate for the cause and help Lingappa lead a normal life again may send their contributions to the following address:

Great work by Daiji and his team. Great compassionate gesture by donors. May Lord Jesus bless all especially Lingappa and his family.

One thought i would like to share:
Probably this is the best act of kindness one can perform which is loved by Almighty and the people. It also indicates that the donors are ready to donate if the donated amount reaches the needy for the right purpose. May Lord Jesus bless us all.

Wonderful job taken up. People from un-divided DK and Udupi Districts have once again shown the spirit of Humanity, love and brotherhood. Donors list reads the spirit of oneness. More Charity - More Prosperity - More Blessings from Almighty.
Please keep going.

Well done dear friends, this is what is called humanity. Though i have not contributed any amount in this case, this reminds me of one experience i had in my life.
One Mr.Rajendra Telgu was a very good friend of mine. His son had a similar case. I helped him around one lakh of rupees. I 2007 when i came down from US & wanted to build a house in Goa, the same man looted me in lakhs. In buying a plot itself he looted me 5 lakhs.
Rs.3.5 lakhs plot was bought for me for 8.5 lakhs, plus everywhere in construction.(Plumbing,Electrician,Tiling etc.)
I bless Lingappa and wish him all the best of health.
But i just remebered my own case & wanted to share.
Thats all. Thanks.

Daijiworld is a miracle. God bless also the donors. If  the  groups had begun such activities they would have transformed India. Unfortunately these groups are busy fighting for the rights of cows, not human beings!

Here is an example!!!
there may be a lot of hatredness we have seen Sometimes throwing stones, sometimes uttering words But when the chance to come show the humanity we never hesitate to help.No one never checked
whether belongs to church or temple or mosque.....
Just helped to see a person live long and gave little from what we have with a great heart and a great wish to see him not to suffer more
Hope god will give a chance to live long.

in this news item there are less comments and more donations

I don't think there is any community in the world that can be as well connected as Mangalorean community. We should all be proud to be Mangaloreans. We are such a closely connected community unity is our trademark and should remain so always. Even though we are now two separate districts, culturally we are one. We should all remain united in our diversity and be there for each other always.
