Panaji: Condolence meet to condole death of Vincent Florencio Fernandes

Panaji, Jun 5: Vincent Florencio Fernandes popularly known as 'Star of Curtorim' who passed away in the month of May earlier this year was born on February 27 1941 in Curtorim, Salcete Goa.

Son of Joaquim Joao Fernandes and Maria Augusta Mascarenhas e Fernandes is also called by his tiatr fans as ‘Seza Pai’ because the most successful tiatr of Star of Curtorim was entitled ‘Seza Pai’.In order to condole his death Tiatr Academy of Goa will organize a condolence meet on  Monday the June 10 at 4 pm at the Black-Box, Ravindra Bhavan Margao.

Being enthusiastic about Konkani Tiatr and Konkani Song, Star of Curtorim wrote his 1st tiatr ‘Put Mhozo Bekar’ in 1959. The performance of tiatr was appreciated by people who gave him a boost to write more tiatrs in future. His 2nd tiatr was ‘Nirmilolem Jivit’.Then came his record breaking tiatr ‘Seza Pai’. This Tiatr was based on a true story and the popularity of ‘Seza Pai’ reached to such a height that the tiatr loving people started calling Star of Curtorim ‘Seza Pai’.

After his retirement from service he did not retire from the tiatr stage. He started staging his old tiatrs. He also wrote two new tiatrs namely ‘Izmol’ and ‘Maim Dukhi Sasumaim Sukhi’. Both tiatrs were successful.

For his valuable contribution to tiatr stage he has been felicitated by various cultural and social organizations:-

He was felicitated by Kala Academy in 2008. In 2009 Government of Goa bestowed upon him the prestigious Goa State Cultural Award 2009 Curtorim Jaycees Club also felicitated him in 2010.

All Tiatr lovers and fans of Star of Curtorim are requested to attend the said meet and pay homage to to his departed soul.
