Kasargod, Mar 17: The prime accused in an attempt to murder case was caught at Mangalore International Airport on Saturday March 16.

The accused is identified as Zainul Abid (28), who was wanted for a murder attempt on Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) worker Jyotish (24) from Anangoor.

On February 5, Jyotish was attacked by a group of five persons at Nullipady while he was returning after distributing invitation cards for a marriage to be held the following week. While four of them were arrested, Abid had managed to escape and was on the run ever since.

The police had alerted Mangalore airport about Abid, and on Saturday, while he was about to board a flight to the Gulf in a bid to escape, the immigration officers caught him.

The officers then informed the Kasargod police who arrived at the airport and took Abid into custody.

It is said that in 2008, when there were communal clashes in Kasargod wherein four persons had died, Jyotish was accused for the death of one Mohammed Sinan. The murder attempt on Jyotish is thus seen as a revenge for Sinan's killing.

Abid is said to be accused in several criminal cases. Sources informed that the attack on Jyotish had been planned by the accused while they were in the Gulf.

Kasargod police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
