Udupi: Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti Holds Protest Rally Condemning Various Rituals

Udupi, Jan 8: Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti organized a massive protest rally from Town Hall to the service bus stop against the practice of ‘Made Snana’, caste discrimination and ‘Ede Snana’ rituals on Monday January 7.

Neela K (writer and Dalit Sangharsha Samiti leader) from Gulbarga inaugurated the sabha. “Our voice should be more than our flags”, she said.

 “The temples are always built by Dalits, a sculpture is created from a stone by a Dalit, it is kept clean by Dalits but once the deity is brought inside the Garbagudi, the Brahmins pour ghee, sandal paste and Kumkum on the idol after which the Dalits are not allowed inside which is not acceptable”, she said. She also questioned the system.

She alleged that Pejawar Swamiji of harbouring 'double standards' in dealing with sacred orthodox rituals and said that he should come out of it.

“Pejawar Swamiji is misleading the public. If he wants to prove himself, let him stop visiting the Dalit colonies and make arrangements to invite the Dalits for dining with the priesthood class. Let him preach equality through practice and not by just drama”, she urged.

She accused that the lower caste people were being exploited in the name of devotion. “Dalits also worship god. The lower section people are used by the higher class for their gains," she added.

She demanded the Math heads to stop the practice of ‘Made Snana’ and ‘Pankthi Bedha’ before the government bans it.

She also condemned the statement made by RSS leader Mohan Bhaghvath who said that rape and crime against women happens not in ‘Bharath’ but in ‘India’. He should be aware that the crimes against women are more in villages than in cities, she added.

Sundar Master in his introductory speech said that Maths and a few others have been promoting superstitious practices in the society. “Equality is just in words. The recent lathi charge against CPI(M) workers was inhuman. It should be always below the knee, instead they were brutally beaten”, he said.

    1.You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

    2.What one person receives without working for, another person must work for it without receiving.

    3. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

    4. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

    Can you think of a reason for not sharing this? Neither could I.

    Dakshina Kannada district is a brahmiized right wing dominated district where dalits suffer utmost due to caste sickness of brahminzed people. Rampant untouchabilty, discrimination and deprivation of SC/ST is easily visible.....Once a voracious beef eating society mentioned in Rig veda has always fooled masses in the name of its discriminatory religious practices. SC/ST should kick out the discriminatory brahminzed dharma which treats them inhumanely and get back to their original buddha dhamma which they belonged. A religion which only discrimates shudra/sc/st should be left,,,,,,this is what Buddha, Guru Nanak, Mahavira, Basavanna and Dr. Ambedkar did,,,,,,,embrace religion and follow which gives respect, equality and helps in human development than to be slaves and untouchables. Our constitution provides equality but the society does not.... so to build a society we need to Educate, Agitate and organize to be politically, economically and socially develop

    My dear friends.There is no discrimination at all by brahmin people.It is all the other people who are creating unwanted phobia about these soft heartened people.For your kind information even the rich people who does not belong to brahmin community call them to perform the poojas at their house.First go to them and tell them not to invite brahmins for performing pujas and then come down to streets and shout what ever you want to......

    Time has come to stop serving free food to Students, Widows and poor in the Mutts even after loosing all their properties and aids. If brahmins goes in search of Job, nowhere they are entertained and only Dalits, SC's, ST's are entertained. Now Brahmins became poor and some of the families are facing difficulties to servive.

    In Kudroli temple, the temple preists are from Billawa community itself. People from all casts including brahmins visit there to offer prayers. No brahmin ever tried to enter the Garbhagudi there. I think Mariamma temple in Urva is another similar example. So why cant Dalits build a temple wherein they will be preists themselves. Let all people who feel like they are deprived by brahmin community build their own temples and stop going to temples where brahmins are preists. Why unnecessarily protest and waste time? do something concrete.
