Mangalore, Aug 17: The birth centenary of writer Krishnamurthy Puranik was observed by Dakshina Kannada Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat at the TTI hall in Balmatta on Friday August 17.
Dr M Prabhakar Joshi, senior scholar inaugurated the programme by lighting a lamp and S Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishat presided over the programme.
On the occasion, Krishnamurthy’s novels were displayed and S Pradeep Kumar Kalkura honored LS Shasthri, senior author and journalist from Belgaum.
M Prabhakar Joshi in his inaugural address gave a brief introduction on late Krishnamurthy and his contribution towards the Kannada language. He said that the works by him has brought interest in readers and his works suits all sections of people, he said.
Krishnamurthy has written more than 80 novels, 100 compositions and various others, he said. He finally wished his collections to be in a digital form so that it reaches people easily.
Another senior writer Shastri said the the stories written by Krishnamurthy are related to social incidents and mainly emphasizes on women’s life. He said Shivaram Karanth, Kuvempu, Bendre are his inspiration and among his work as many as 15 stories have been come in movies.
Adding to that he said nowadays books are of no importance and asked people to the inculcate habit of reading.
Mishriya welcomed, Nayana compered and Muralidhar Acharya proposed vote of thanks.
