Mangalore, Jun 1: Gonzaga School, a new CBSE unit of St Aloysius Institutions was inaugurated here in its premises on Friday June 1.

Fr Francis Serrao, provincial, Karnataka province said that though there were Kannada and English medium schools under St Aloysius Institutions, CBSE syllabus was the need of the hour, which the city needed too.

"Comparatively, Kannada medium has become less significant and parents usually choose the modern curriculum. Moreover, CBSE syllabus opens up various avenues for students and hence the job opportunities are wide," he opined.

"Eventually we will teach till 12th standard. We will continue to teach Kannada and English medium in the campus. CBSE is a private institution while the others are government aided," he said.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Grace Noronha, principal of Gonzaga School informed that classes for 1st to 5th standard have started. Apart from academics, there are non-academic and extracurricular activities like karate, roller skating, western music, Indian dance, and animation graded courses with tie-up with Lifeway College of Newzealand.

On Saturday June 2, the teachers will be trained on animation by the faculty of New Zealand College.

There are as many as eight teaching and three non-teaching members of staff. Teachers are trained with week-long orientation programme along with child-centered teaching and learning programmes, she said.

Fr Joseph Rodrigues, rector of St Aloysius Institutions also spoke.

Fr Elvis Lewis, manager of Gonzaga School was present on the dais.

Being a Product of Jesuit Education right thru my School and college at SAC Mangalore / St. Joesph's Bangalore, My prayers and good wishes for the success of their new CBSCE venture. The Good Jesuit priests have sacrificed a lot for the betterment of education all over the world. In India they have provided quality education without distinction to caste and creed or wealth, without any publicity they have ensured that the under privileged get quality education for the betterment of society. "SJ" (Society of Jesus) the order they belong to, has indeed been a brand name in itself. May the almighty continue to bless this institution, its faculty and all associated with the betterment of society.

Good step. There's something more to be done to the Jesuits that just building physical infrastructure. There's a lot of difference between the education system of Jesuits some years ago and now. Much accept the world with it's growth and follow it. anyway one of the best steps.
