Mangalore, Dec 21: ‘Rani Abbakka Drishti-Srishti’, a national level painting camp, and ‘Rani Abbakka Art Gallery’ inaugural, will be held at Rani Abbakka Tulu Study Centre and ‘Tulu Baduku’ museum at Sanchayanagiri in B C Road here between December 24 and 28.

“The national painting camp will be based on the life and achievements of Rani Abbakka. This will be a milestone in the history of Tulunadu,” said Prof Tukaram Poojary, addressing a press conference here on Tuesday December 20.

He informed that important events in the life of Abbakka will come to life through the brushes of 24 artists of national stature at the camp. "These creations will be priceless gifts for the litterateurs, artistes, scholars, researchers, critics and the general public,” he added.

Rani Abbakka Tulu Study Centre and ‘Tulu Baduku’ museum, which came into being on January 21, 1995, with the specific aim of encouraging studies in Tulu culture and providing impetus to it, have been striving to conserve Tulu culture and protect the monuments and archives through various programmes. Rani Abbakka Art Gallery will be an important addition to the above two entities, he felt.

The painting camp will be inaugurated by Mangalore University vice chancellor, Prof Shivashankar Murthy, on December 24. Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, will inaugurate Rani Abbakka Art Gallery on December 28. Stalwarts like minister, Krishna J Palemar, sandalwood director, T S Nagabharana, and M Mohan Alva will be taking part in the inaugural of the painting camp, he revealed.

Reception committee president, A C Bhandary, Sudarshan Jain, D M Kulal, N S Pattar, and Kandan G were present at the press conference.
