Movie Review: 'Rascals' - Silly, Mindless 'Comedy'

Oct 7: If you are impressed with the trailers of ‘Rascals’ and thought it would be yet another ‘Partner’ kind of entertainer by David Dhawan, I would say kindly change your mind as this one’s much ‘different’ to the point that you hardly need any sense to watch to it. Well, yes you got to leave aside your thinking power and watch this one, if ever you really want to give a try.

Plot and Analysis

Chetan Chauhan and Bhagat Bhosle, the two 'rascals' are big-time mischief-makers which is clearly evident from the witty introduction to the movie with cartoons of both the lead actors. The opening is the only good thing you get to watch because once the actual movie begins it goes nowhere and just doesn’t seem to end.

Chetan and Bhagat separately deceive Anthony (Arjun Rampal) on his engagement day and escape to Bangkok, where they come across a rich lady Khushi (Kangana Ranaut). Then begin their tricks to impress the lady in various ways, and you wish at least one out of them were funny for a ‘comedy’ movie. While Chetan pretends to be into the ‘Art of Giving’, his rival conman Bhagat poses as a blind man to gain the sympathy of Kushi. This drama of impressing Kushi goes on almost till second half of the movie and the senseless proceedings are finally stopped with re-entry of Anthony and there comes an unpredicted twist which doesn’t make the movie any better.

This so-called comedy movie chiefly lacks humour. The script is very poor and doesn’t arouse any laughter and looks like the girls are there merely for a skin-show contest. Nor do the not-so-funny dialogues by the two ‘rascals’ manage to amuse.

At least David Dhawan’s earlier comedy movies, though they did not have a great storyline, managed to entertain the audience which is usually expected of a comedy movie. This one just did not manage to do any good.

Cast

Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn, both well-established actors are mediocre. Not sure whether they should be blamed or the director for offering them the roles. Though both have done humorous roles in the past which was pretty appreciated, this one both couldn’t do much as there was nothing to do in the first place. It looked like both were just holidaying somewhere and all what they did in the movie was mere time pass.

And the heroine Kangana Ranaut! Gaush! You’ll surely forget the girl of Gangster if you watch this one. Her chemistry just doesn’t go well with either of the heroes. Atleast Tanu Weds Manu was much better for Kangana than this one. Wonder what’s happened to her choice of movies.

Music

Vishal – Shekhar’s music as usual had its own charm. But you will not find all of them hummable. The title track is the only one you would feel like humming as that’s the one which gives ‘Rascals’ a little credit. That could have been the reason it is played once in the beginning of the movie and then again when it ends giving a sigh of relief to the audience that this is the ‘End’.

Conclusion

Totally disappointing ‘comedy’ with nonsense proceedings. If you can tolerate silly humour this one’s for you, if not, don't waste your precious bucks on a movie that makes you 'swear' in disgust

I totally agree with the writer. This is one of the worst comedies I have seen. Mostly, it has double meaning and cheap dialogues.

Certainly not worth while watching with parents or any elders. Such a worst piece is not expected from a director like David Dhawan.
