New Delhi, Sep 19: The India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) plans to organise the first edition of the Bharat Electronics Manufacturing and Export Summit (BEMES), a national-level event focused on electronics manufacturing and exports, in February 2027.

ICEA chairperson Pankaj Mohindroo announced the plan while speaking at a session titled ‘Industry Synergy for National Priorities’. He said discussions were underway to organise BEMES, Semicon India and the Indian Mobile Congress concurrently to create greater synergy among industry associations.

Electronic Industries Association of India (Elcina) director general Rajoo Goel, however, said bringing all the events together “may or may not be necessarily the best thing”, comparing the approach to “putting all your eggs in one basket”.

SEMI India president Ashok Chandak said electronics industry associations should adopt a non-competitive approach and work more closely with one another. He said collaborations were already taking place but were not fully visible.

“From a national agenda perspective, various associations are the dots, they must be connected properly so the holistic approach addresses the national agenda seamlessly,” Chandak said.

He proposed setting up a coordination panel to strengthen cooperation among industry bodies. The panel could meet monthly or quarterly to discuss challenges and opportunities and facilitate greater collaboration.

“Let's not think about whether somebody is jumping in somebody's turf or whether there is a place for me or not. There is a place for everyone,” he said.

Meanwhile, SEMI president and CEO Ajit Manocha proposed creating a permanent steering committee where leaders of industry associations could deliberate on events such as Semicon India.
