Mangaluru: Bold step by Padubidri GP – Fine for parking on service road

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Aug 14: Vehicle drivers and owners arriving at the Padubidri market area should be careful from now onwards. If the vehicle is parked anywhere and everywhere, a fine will be slapped.

Though the local gram panchayat and police department took several steps to reduce traffic congestion at Padubidri junction, controlling the erratic drivers was a problem. Now the gram panchayat has placed a 'no parking' board on both sides of the road.

Though there was a proposal of constructing a separate bypass at Padubidri when the road was made into four lanes, due to political reasons, the highway runs through the busy market area itself. As required, the land was not acquired during four-lane construction. Now there are many issues in the junction area.

Many owners renovated their buildings without leaving any space for parking. So the customers have to park their vehicles on the main road itself. Auto rickshaws and taxis also park their vehicles on the service road itself. In addition, an auto rickshaw stand was built at a cost of Rs 7 crore on Avaralu Mattu connecting road from the junction, which has further congested the area.

Many school buses ply in this area and find it difficult to negotiate traffic. Accidents have also taken place. Due to the bold step taken by the gram panchayat and police department, people who go to work to distant places have to leave their vehicles at their homes only rather than park them in the junction area.

I hope now atleast, the shop, hotel owners, people of Padubidri and their political leaders and the GP itself realise that it was stupid to oppose the highway bypass . A highway is for uninterrupted movement of vehicles and not for everyone to conduct business

Of course a bold step by Padubidre GP. In mangalore the police are scared to penalise the 4 wheelers parked on the foot paths & other busy roadsides. There's heavy traffic congestion everyday from bendur circle upto and, ahead of bendur cross circle when the 2 schools close down for the day. It's like passing thru hell.

The national highway passing thro Padubidri, or for that matter even Surathkal junction is messed up because of political backing of one community towards reigning party...I don't have to mention which community or which political party they have backing....it's a joke, how the highway cuts thro these town junctions.

Who gave them permission to renovate the building for renovation. Now those peoples who talk about UP system in Karnataka, then apply that here and demolish those buildings which are not set aside for parking. Best way is boycott all those shops, will be the best way.

recently i was travelling to udupi in express...on this very service road the driver stopped to pick passengers..the traffic cop spoke harshly and asked the driver to stop the bus for five minutes...driver just shut the engine got down and went out and said i will not remove for half an hour..traffic started getting blocked behind...then the poor cop had to request him to start the bus and go...this is the level of gathi of our cops..the reason is that the lobby gives 40 percent every month...
