JD(S) MLA slammed for slapping college principal in Karnataka

Mandya (Karnataka), Jun 21 (IANS): A JD(S) MLA in Karnataka slapped a college principal who was not able to provide clear answer about the ongoing development work for a computer lab.

The incident, which happened on Monday, has created a huge outrage among the public.

M. Srinivas, MLA from Mandya, repeatedly slapped the Principal of Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar ITI College in full public view. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media. People have slammed Srinivas for treating the principal with no respect.

According to eyewitnesses, Srinivas got infuriated as the Principal Naganad could not give information on the work in laboratory during the inauguration of the renovated ITI College.

The JD(S) MLA scolded him, made awkward face and slapped him twice in front of his colleagues and local politicians including a woman.

The video shows the principal in shock and awe while public is trying to placate the MLA.

Shambhu Gowda, the President of the Government Employees Association Mandya District, on Tuesday said that the matter will be brought to the notice of the District Commissioner.

Gowda called emergency meeting of the association and took details of the assault on the Principal. He also met the Principal Naganand and took details of the incident and assured him of full support.

    Why was the MLA not arrested for slapping a public servant while on duty? Would the police spare the common man if he had done the same? This is serious.

    MLA might not even have completed 10th. How can he take law into his own hands. This is what happens if uncultured uncivilised and uneducated fools get power.People vote wisely next time.

    Let that illiterate MLA be treated in the same way in public by the students and the same principal. He should tender public apology to the principal. Some times this is the tragedy in our democracy. Some unfit , uncivilized , uneducated people get elected as peoples representatives because of money power .

    I find this behaviour of this MLA shocking , disgusting, uncivilized for humiliating the Principal of ITI college. One should remember that a MLA Is an elected representative of people to represent their interests, and nothing else and gets things done. He is not the master but supposed to be the servant of people. That is how a democracy should run. It is quite possible that the college principal Didn’t have the answer at that moment, but then this MLA. Need not behave like a slave master. Thank God this MLA wasn’t among a hostile crowd! Who knows what would have happened! The society must demand a public apology from this idiot MLA or ask him to resign!
