This is not about Make in India. Ather, TVS and Bajaj have designed and launched products too. The problem for Mangaloreans is availability. People have their reasons to switch to electric, but what the hell are you buying? Komaki is INDIAN, collaborating with a Japanese brand, but gets its supply majorly from China. Their products are designed like graduation projects of BE mechanical students - just proof of concepts that work for the time being. They existed for many years as low capacity models running on acid batteries. Hero electric, Okinawa all at similar level, same components being used. Komaki in Mangalore doesn't even give test rides. The sales guy will ask you where you are from, and just say that so many from that place have booked, or so and so has bought recently etc. I bet none of you have seen the battery holder compartment of these scooters. 1mm sheet metal, which gets blasted with road muck and will rust and disintegrate in a year. Li-ion batteries must be properly cooled. These guys just have one giant battery. No concept of BMS. Apparently, you can sell such shit as people here don't know how to ride or maintain their vehicles. So WHAT ELSE can you buy in Mangalore? Bajaj Chetak? Costs 1.5lac after subsidies, slowest of all, clumsiest of all. Available. Ola? They can't deliver a cab on time. Do you want to beta test their copied product from Europe? Go ahead. TVS has the best VFM product, but think they are too good for Mangalore. Dealers here can't invest 5lacs to set up service from past 3 years. They are available in Bangalore, Mysore and Belagavi, but not here. Ask for iQube. Ather is good if you got the cash. Get it from Bangalore. So know what you buy, just because you see something on the road doesn't mean its good. Or even if it is from a known brand like Honda - Activa 5G doesnt know between high or low beam - yet was on market for years. For now, wait and watch. Learn and remember to maintain your existing vehicles till then.

Many such cases of spontaneous battery explosions, in two wheelers have been reported from different parts of the country, which indicates that these batteries are not dependendale and risky to life and property! Incidentally, the sales of each of the makers of the exploded batteries have dropped drastically! IMHO, Komaki is a Delhi based manufacturer of auto ancillaries, which recently diversified into EVs and has nothing to do with Japan; I doubt whetgher they have intensive testing and R&D facilities like auto majors! Incidentally, M&M has introduced an E rickshaw which has so far not a single complaint and owners are very happy with its performance! Taking note of so many incidents, government has come out with a strict set of guidelines to assure safety! IMHO, people should delay buying e-scooters till they are extensively tested for battery safety especially in hot and humid conditions and severe electric supply voltage fluctuations especially in places like DK!!

If this is the state of E.V 's in India. Who will have trust and guts to purchase electric vehicles? Companies who is manufacturing these vehicles must find a solution to this problem otherwise market for E V's will finish in no time.

While moving to electric is good .. It should be noted electricity generating power plants use coal .. etc .. If generating plants supplying to grid are from renewables .. known as green energy .. Then electric Scooters .. cars etc will be holistically green ... Batteries use lithium etc for which huge mining takes place Tonnes are mined to get few grams of rare metals used in batteries ... For charging In apartment..maybe all to be having separate charging stations with all safety .. In fire proof .. rooms ..fire confined within if at all .. Going forward Public transport essential .. More to travel with less damage to environment ..

We are experts and highly technical only in finding temples under mosques but not capable of producing quality cell phones or EVs.

I had opposed such charging point in my Apartment, giving reasons like Building insurance will not cover any insurance to other damaged vehicles, third party insurance of same vehicle is limited to 7.5 lac only. Further any vehicles parked nearby without first party insurance, unnecessarily loose their valuable property. It should me made mandatory to compensate the lost property, from the insurance policy of the vehicle caused the blast and fire

Bad luck of owner and supplier, if such incidents happening in side charging centers may cause unlimited damages. Matter of great concern for E.V. manufacturers and charger companies and battery suppliers and ofcourse all E.V. owners.

We've seen faulty cellphone batteries exploding while in charge or in use. Bigger pack of same cells in vehicles is now proving to be time bombs. The cells require active cooling system to take away the heat generated. Time to either improve technology of efficient alternative batteries or ban EV s as they are not feasible for common man's use with these teething problems and they are more harmful than fuels in use to the environment.

This is warning for all the community. If one of your neighbours owns an electric vehicle, make sure he/she does not charge the vehicle in your building or anywhere near where you live or where you have your other vehicles. This is a half-baked technology in India and is very hazardous.
