Udupi: Raitha Sangha Activists Disrupt Pejavar Seer’s Talk with UPCL Authorities

Udupi, Mar 4:
The activists of district Raitha Sangha picketed at Yakshagana Kala Ranga office, here on Friday March 4, when the discussion meet between Vishveshateerta Swmaiji of Pejavar Mutt and the officials of Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) was in progress.

Over 200 activists of Raitha Sangha condemned the exclusive meeting of Swami Vishveshateerta with UPCL authorities alleging that there lies secret agenda between them.

UPCL officers Srinivas Reddy, Ravindra Reddy, Kishore Alva, Sudarshan Prasad and Girish Navada were engaged in a discussion meet with Swami Vishveshateerta when the activists of Raitha Sangha hurled slogans against them.

Although, Raitha Sangha president Vijay Hegde was invited for discussions, he was not seated in the dais.

It may be recalled that Swami Vishveshateerta had visited UPCL power plant on February 26 and had given a ultimatum to UPCL’s closure by Thursday March 3. But the power plant was functioning as usual even on Friday, despite the intervention of seer; it was the chief cause for the angry activists of Raitha Sangha to hinder the talks between Swamiji and UPCL authorities.

The policemen arrived on the spot and controlled the situation.

Swami Vishveshateerta clarified to the leaders of Raitha Sangha that he wanted to know the pros and cons of keeping the UPCL power plant shut or running and he has no hidden agenda behind the talks.

The Raitha Sangha president Vijay Hegde announced that Swami Vishveshateerta need not broker the talks with UPCL as their association alone will address farmers issue with UPCL.

The activists of Raitha Sangha later moved to Taluk Office where they met Tahsildar and explained the issue of environmental report that was alleged to be held by UPCL spokesperson Kishore Alva to misguide the farmer’s fraternity.  Tahsildar in his reply said that he had not issued any environmental report and he will move the court against UPCL authorities to show cause related to the issue.

Raith Sangha key activists – Sudhakar Shetty, Vishu Kumar, Shashidar Shetty, Jayant Bhat, Nagesh Bhat, taluk panchayat member Sumana Kishore, the presidents and members of various gram panchayats under whose jurisdiction UPCL power plant is located were present on the occasion.

Shahnawaz.. please do not divert the topic. we are sorry if anyone had hurt minorities in the name of Hinduism and so you be. Mojority of hindus always support secularism .. so these fringe elements can never rule the roost. Comming to the point Mr. Fernandis thank you for observing my point and Mr. Ajit .. you too have a point. Now that the company have come up.... we want them to solve the problems first. The company should'nt have come up in the first place in the west coast as it a environmentally very sensitive place for whole of India and the people of Kerala to Goa have learnt to live with the nature for ages without destroying it. even we built a house in 10cents land.. we make sure we have adequest greenery around us.

This nature we do not see with any other people of India. Hence, Govt, have to recognise that and encourage us instead of rooting us from here. UPLC must adhere to the most modren technic and implement it soon. Make sure the fly ash is not speard, coals are stocked in bare minimum area with a better facility, saline mist from boiler is arrested .. hot water is proppely disposed after cooling it so that, it does not destroy our marine life. I have read in internet some of the most advanced techniques used in America let them follow it.

Moreover, the poor people from local must be employed. I am not talking about any Shettys from Guthu or Bhat. we have poor peasants, carpenters, madelas, potters, blacksmiths.

UPCL running its operation like the generators kept for Functions!!. Visit the palnt once you will see the quality of operations. They better follow the rules & regulations. They do not follow any norms to stock the coal.Tey do not follow the standard operation in Ash management or hot water disposal. Who gave them the licence to play with Lives of people. How can they ever start generating power when basic things are not in palce? Dist admin should ask them to follw the same first. Let them share the norms on coal,Ash & hot water management for the se palnts & also publish their adhrence for the same. You will be shocked to know that.Cox I have visited the palnt several times...

Let the attention be not diverted. It is a fact that lot of damage is being done to the envoirnment adjorning UPCL site. The plant is not fully operational but its ash is creating lot of health hazard.Other day my mother who visited her sisters house ( Ulloor) is confirming that all the trees( including coconut) in her sisters compound have become skeletons. I fully endorse the views of Shasi Shetty of Santhoor. There is enough barren land available in this State wherein this power plant could have been established. Eco friendly ( renewable energy- tide water- hydro-wind) plants could have been established at Coastel Karnataka. It is for the greed of money, our policy makers have consented this plant. As the coal is being imported, company wanted a site close to the port. But at what cost. I request Daijiworld to conduct a through study and investigation of the impact and publish the same. let the people of Udupi/DK unite irrespective of their caste/religion/political affiliation and fight for the just cause.

    KR Prabhu and Asok/Dubai.

All saffrondharis are not saint. All green turban and beareded are not pious. Who is behind the bomb blasts on Mecca masjid and malegoamn masjid???? Its saffrondhari female saint Prajna Thakur and how about firebrand hate leader Uma Bharathi. Is she not wearing saffron. Its their robe just to fool public. Haati ke dikhane ke daanth aur and chabane ke dant aur... Why there was stone pelting incident on the shops of mulsims and masjid during the procession of samajotsava in Madikeri?? Are these so called saints preaching harmony and love or spreading hate and vomitting venom???? Try calling spade a spade.. Dont get emotional... As I strongly condemn Islamic terrorism I too condemn in its equal measure saffron terrorism. Thats it. Truth is always bitter. People holding public positions must use their office for public harmony and not to incite violence and hate. What have the ever peace loving chiristian community has done to us. Why are we attacking their churches and burning their missionaries? Who burnt the Stains to their death??? Who burnt the christian houses in Orissa?? Now tell us who is peace lovers??? Have the christians in Orissa retaliated? No not at all. They still love peace and love you all. They still admit your children in their schools, in oldage homes, in orphanages. Still you brand them as foreign agents... I too strongly feel that you too have educated from these very christian schools. Double standards with double approach

I personally feel that the interference of Swamiji in this matter is not required as it is none of his business. He must concentrate on his duties of performing poojas and moulding the Hindus to be better citizens of this country than trying to be politically active. We have a District administration to look into this matter which will decide what to do and what not to do. Will the Swamiji give power to the district or the Raita Sanga give power to the District if we keep on protesting to each and every project in the District. The Swamiji who is already branded as an agent of BJP should stop such activities.

The real plight of people gets drowned in the drama by Self d environmentalists, For Rent activists, Lobbyists for private power companies-Gas based power projects, retired politicians, "prachara priya" religious leaders...It is quite ridiculous, when a religious leader who can not stop deforestation of Udupi Math land at Kundel Kadu in Manipal, talks about environment!

This incident shows that people have lost confidence with the Swamijis. The reason for this is they are no more representing people as whole because of their political ambitions and affiliations.

Involvement of Swamijis in politics rather than the social activities has made them to loose their credibility.

Now-a-days swamijis are after money and power.

Police is a constitutional institution and its defined in their charter of duities to protect, summon, solve or else register the case and send it to the court. Where its written in the religious books for swamis act like police. Its better this swami joins police and become a super cop like Kiran Bedi and do "Aap ki kacheri" which shall bring some revenue and desired fame....Now as per your advise we can see him wearing khaki....

Does anyone in the crowd look like a real "raita" to you? These overweight, shiny dress wearing men look like some ladies bar clients or bouncers than "raitas"

It is well known that brokers sitting in Dubai are funding all these goondagiri against UPCL and Swamijis.

Vijay Kumar Hegde - a failed businessman then became leader of Bajarang Dal and is now "leader" of Raita Sangha.

These naysayers were predicting UPCL will never get off the ground. But reality is it is up and running and we are able to enjoy uninterrupted power in Mangalore and Udupi now.

When UPCL has already started power production what is the point in all these protests except perhaps to get suitcases from company to stop protests?

First of all no one had asked this man (I hate to call him swamy anymore.. to called as swamy one be one, but wearing a rob one cannot be called as swamy) to participate in the agitation, no one asked him to sit on fasting and no one asked him to announce him to stop UPCL. The greivance of the surrouding villagers are mindless medling with the environment in the name of development. Throwing of fly ashes which fly almost 10kms in radius, pipe brusting resulting in flooding of hot and saline water near fields and entering houses, total damage of roads and uncontrolled migrant labour force robbig poor villagers. (one girls ear was torn whilee one man tried to snatch the ear rings, children a chased by these workers). Moreover the promise of employing the landless.. they have done nothig about this. This company deploy our native villagers as watchman and nothing else. The simple solution was the company had to listen to the locals and get the above rectified and take them into confidence. But, the idea of the company is to trouble the locals as much as possile so that, the villagers will move or sell the land for nothing. This is the sole intention which have angered the villagers.. why should company employees go and talk to this orange clad old man who have kept his one leg into his grave. instead let them to talk to the concerened and solve the matter. The agitation started with 100members and today everyone have seeen there were more than 250people. UPCL will feel theheat

Hi Kukkikatte.what non sense you are taking about?.Are you in sane mindset. In the news item today here, report on where few persons have defrauded Mangaloreans, you have commented 'where is that Swamiji'? as if he is responsible for all evils in the soceity. Now when he is in action for a genuine cause, you are asking 'who gave authority to the swamiji' Do you mean what you are trying to tell. Why do you bring caste system etc here. You must understand clearly that caste system prevails and will prevail.People like you who ran to dubai in search of 'ganji'will not understand the real problem of Nandikoor people.Tell me frankly, are you not a casteist? If not ,are you have married a non muslim to prove your credentials. In the soceity in every crminal.theft activity which caste people are involved maximum? and why? Did we hindus ever questioned where are Mullahs and what they preach in madrasas?Did you develop your type of hindu baiting mentality in Madrasa study? I am not a follower of Swamiji, but enormous hindus do have respect for Vishvesh Theertha swamiji who has done a lot of pro-people programmes with out any lust for publicity. You may be an arch rival/enmy of the swamiji but it does not mean you write whatever comes to your mind.It is understood that you are a great 'pretender' but do not venture into baiting hindus and hindu saints.

The religious leaders of Hindu, Muslim and Christian should concentrate more or moral value and religious teaching so that the devotees become a good human being. In the olden days, the kings consult the priests for their opinion about any major decision taking. In this modern society there are different administrative bodies and a method to stop running an unhealthy environment polluting industries.
A priest like Pejavar swami who is the vice-president of VHP, an affiliated body of BJP, should not have entered politics through the back door and promoted his affiliated political party BJP by exploiting Hindu religion and the people's emotion.
As per the directions from RSS he goes about politicking instead of performing poojas in the temple. You cannot cheat God because HE is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient.

Let him first eradicate caste system and advocate social and economic equality. There are system in our constitution and in our country to address the grievances of the people. The clerics should limit their exposure to their field only... Too much is too bad.
