Udupi district loses its top position in SSLC results, Hijab row blamed

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB/EP)

Udupi, May 23: People of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are proud that Udupi is known as the district of the intellectuals. It used to be the top ranked districts in both SSLC results and PUC results. However, Udupi is identified in the friction between students relating to Hijab and Saffron shawl a few months ago.

Udupi has witnessed a few unpleasant incidents in the recent past. Though it tops in the quality of education, the graph of the results has been pointing downward for the last few years. This year, while Dakshina Kannada was ranked 20th position in the SSLC examination results, Udupi had to be content with the 13th position.

People have expressed dissatisfaction that the recent controversies of hijab and shawl have affected the minds of children and brought down the results. The hijab controversy started at government girl’s college and later spread to all the high schools and colleges.

Udupi has secured excellent results for a long time. The results were 88.18% in 2018, 87.97% in 2019 and 99.9% in 2020. The SSLC results this year were 89.46%. Experts opine that the training has been excellent as usual but the percentage has become less for various reasons.

Udupi was always below 10th position in SSLC and above 3rd position in PUC. Please check last year's and earlier years data People with twitter handle are putting all this false data. Don't give credence to it. Hijab row has not affected even 2% of students

I still cannot understand , how gullible the protestors and their supporters were? When Hijab around the world , even in Saudi, is NOT mandatory, how do you expect it to be different in India? Or was it a deliberate attempt to create nuisance?? You cannot blame God and Modi for everything in life. Politicians have 'safe' constituencies to win from, if not they jump to another party. Anyways, at the end, you reap what you sow. My prayers goes to all the innocent students and parents who suffered in this ordeal. Lets concentrate and work hard in the higher classes.

Right! More than the political parties and protestors, I blame the instigators of protests and who hide inside their houses.

It's a great development and the parents, politicians and academic community is to be proud of the achievement. Instead of education we have made great progress in religious polarization, community disturbance, unrest and hatred for all wrong reasons. The parents of children will realise only when the time comes for the harvesting fruits of their labour.

Yes its sad .Innocent students are the ones who suffered. Portions were not complete. The ones who instigated have travelled Saudi or wherever. They are happy as they were praised by someone in Syria . The irony is, BJP reaped out all the benefits.

The only thing to blame is present parents and social media. Parents don't have control over their kids and their lifestyle, just want to blame govt for everything. lol... This is the result of trying to follow western cultures.

Dont dump accusations on others when everything was going on smoothly. Blame politicians for this failure..... We are always good at pointing at mistakes of others but, we never accept our shortcomings and apologize.....Why you all didnt instruct the students to study who were inside the classrooms ?

I have decided to put my children in Christian institutions throughout their academic career, preferably even up to postgraduate level. I have noticed that most non-Christian institutions are getting increasingly polarised in religious based politics, no matter the caste of the promoters of that institute. This is Modi's new India and I don't want my children to be involved in any rubbish politics and get wayward in their education. How long this religious based virus will be prevented by the Christian institutions remains to be seen, but I appreciate the efforts of the Christian institutes, to so far not get politics involved in students academic career and as a non-Christian, and i stand by my observations and beliefs.

Responsible politicians and goon parties should be ashamed that they have spoiled the chances of these children getting better results and future by distracting them and involving them in cases unrelated to their education. It is also a lesson for parents to see that their children concentrate on eduction rather than mixing up in political controversies .
