Mangaluru: Heavy rains – Holiday declared for schools in Dakshina Kannada

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, May 19: Deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Rajendra K V declared a holiday to schools on Thursday May 19 in Dakshina Kannada due to incessant rains.

The whole district is being battered by heavy downpour due to the low pressure that is developed in Bay of Bengal.

Normal life is thrown out of gear due to the rains that lashed overnight in the district on Wednesday May 18.

Keeping in mind the safety of school children, DC Dr Rajendra K V declared holiday on Thursday to all government, aided, unaided primary and high schools.

Speaking to Daijiworld, the DC said, “Heavy rains continue here in Dakshina Kannada district. Students in rural areas will find it difficult to go to schools. The holiday was declared for the safety of rural children. Many children in the city areas have already reached school. If they have reached school, status quo can be maintained.”

Meanwhile, Udupi DC has instructed respective schools to take decision as incessant rains are battering coastal districts.

Rains are blessings from heavens... But my request to vehicle drivers... Please be careful when you are driving by pedestrians... Kindly do not splash water on them... Highways are fine to speed... But please be considerate on city roads and muddy lanes... It will only take a bit longer for you... Thanks for understanding...

District Administration should inform on time. Earlier DC Senthil was very sensible in this regard. After sending the children to schools why the Dist Administration should declare holiday ? Who will reach children back home ? Jus now I got this message from the school on App. "Dear Parent, Since children are already in the classroom we will be closing the school at 3.15 p.m. This information is given to BEO. If any have any problem near your house you are free to come and take your child" The District Collector, BEO's please see to it that this mess do not repeat. Please be little sensible like earlier DC Senthil while declaring holidays for school.

Its not Acche Din. This untimely rain has destroyed crops like Tomato and Beans. Fishing has stopped ahead of schedule. I can predict a rise in prices of all essential commodities at least for the next three months making life of the general public difficult and dont ask me about unemployment
