NGO bribes case: CBI raids 40 places, detains 7 Home Ministry officials

New Delhi, May 10 (IANS): The CBI on Tuesday raided 40 places across the country and detained seven Union Ministry of Home Affairs officials for allegedly taking bribe from NGOs in lieu of helping them in renewal of Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act registrations.

The raids were conducted in Delhi, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Mysuru, and other states.

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) source said that a hawala connection has also been exposed in the raids through which they sent around Rs 2 crore.

"We have detailed few MHA officials for allegedly helping NGOs which were issued notices for FCRA violation or those seeking renewal of FCRA registration. FCRA is mandatory to receive foreign funds. Around 40 locations have been raided so far," the source told IANS.

The CBI team have caught the MHA officials receiving bribe redhanded.

A case under various sections of IPC read with sections of Prevention of Corruption Act has been lodged in this respect.

The CBI sources said that more arrests in the case are likely.

Sad to state all agencies that were intended to safeguard the people themselves are involved in corrupt practices. We have seen how all agencies had their share of corrupt officials tarnishing their image. We too have seen how these agencies black mail rich people & companies & when they don't oblige they will plant evidence & harass them. All political parties together can end this by not participating in these corrupt practices through these agencies, but they need money to splurge in elections & to buy politicians from other parties if they fall short of majority. People think AAP is not involved in these practices but reality is they too need money to contest elections & they too are humans with party hoppers entering their side to make hay while sun is shining.

Home Ministry has share of percentage, fellows. What they do is , they do not reject the application, but delay. To hurry up the process, they want you to call them. They point out that in your application, there is a line that says - you use the funds for purposes not specified--- so we will fix it. Pay us a few lakhs and that page is replaces, just one page. It is a racket. One page is replaced and you are given renewal next week. We are fooled day in and day out. 40% is the norm. Santhosh Patel has revealed this through his death. May he rest in Peace
