Corruption Dents India's Global Image: PM

New Delhi, Feb 4 (IANS) Expressing concern over the "menace" of corruption in the wake of a series of scams, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday said it demeans and dents India's image.

"Corruption strikes at the roots of good governance. It is an impediment to faster growth. It dilutes, if not negates, our efforts at social inclusion. It dents our international image and it demeans us before our own people," Manmohan Singh said, addressing the second annual conference of chief secretaries of states here.

The prime minister said the "challenge" of corruption needed to "be faced frontally, boldly and quickly".

He said the government has set up a group of ministers to look "into all measures, legal or administrative, to tackle this menace".

He also mentioned two bills introduced in parliament relating to judicial accountability and the protection of whistleblowers.

"Along with legislation, the necessary revamp of administrative practices and procedures needs to be fast-tracked," he said.

He asserted that a systemic response needs to be put in place to reduce opportunities for corruption.

"It is now well documented that the introduction of competition, greater choice and modern technology can cut down the opportunities for corruption in a very meaningful manner."

Please pass a bill to have well staffed and highly powered independent Central-Lokpal & State-Lokayukta in every state by the end of 2011. Simultaneously build independent well equipped buildings in the Capital, all the States & all the State Districts. They should particularly hunt for the highly corrupt Politicians, Babus and Public-Servants through public support system like Web-Site, E-mail IDs, and Mobile Numbers of every Lokayukta-Centre being regularly published on Print & Multi-Media. If the corrupt Govt servants are caught red handed, publish their Photos, punish them severely & if found guilty, dismiss them with imprisonment and confiscation of their ill-gotten wealth with penalty. Within short period of time this magic will work like wild fire all over India and like the Scandinavian countries India too will become the least corrupt nation in the world. As a result the rural poor will feel the inclusive growth of India and get their basic necessities like food, clothing, shelter, drinking water & free health care. Jai Hind!

CWG,2G Spectrum and in Karanataka Landscam plus lots of other scams certainly dented our image in the world.I added Karanatak because world's all state people working and staying in Bangalore.

Lokapal Bill, judicial accountability need to be introduced and stregnthened in which all three branches democracy's head included to investigate if corruption charges crops up against them.See for example in Karanataka there may be millions of dollars corruption taking place and CM has immunity for taking him to the court which hinders the justice system thereby paving the way for enhancement of corruptions.Mr Clean, Manmohan Singh has moral say on the issue and enact a powerful anti -corruption Bill in Parliment.
