Six killed, Eleven Injured in Post-election Enmity


Bhopal, Feb 3 (IANS): At least six people were killed and eleven injured in a clash between two groups over the panchayat elections in a village of Vidisha district, police said Thursday.

"The two groups of Shamshabad area, who had enmity since the panchayat elections, fought with each other today (Thursday) around 10 a.m. with guns and sharp weapons during which six people were killed," said Additional Superintendent of Police Manish Khatri.

However, the officer said that no arrest has been made so far as their priority was to provide treatment to the injured.

Vidisha is over 50 km from the state capital Bhopal.

Police said the two groups, one led by Chand Mian and the other by Kallu Mian, had a fight over the post of sarpanch (headman) in the recent panchayat elections and it took a violent turn when the two armed sides attacked each other.

Among the eleven injured, the condition of three is critical.
