Bengaluru, Jan 27: The joint session of Karnataka Legislature will be held from February 14 to 25 and the State Budget Session will be held in the first week of March.

The dates of the joint session and budget session of the State Legislature were finalised at the State Cabinet meeting held in Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.

Briefing media representatives after the State Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister JC Madhuswamy said the Cabinet reviewed the Covid pandemic situation.

“All issues, including representations received from several organisations as well as the Schools and Colleges, have been placed before the Technical Advisory Committee. A decision will be taken after we receive their report,” Bommai said.

Answering questions, he said the State Cabinet discussed the elections of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and decided that the elections will be held after the State Election Commission suggests the dates. “We want all ministers from the city as well as other ministers to be involved in the work,” he said.

Bommai refuted the charge by Congress leaders that the BJP government was discriminating against wards and assembly constituencies won by them and said the government works for the entire State and City. “We don’t need to shower special attention to any locality. Let them (Congress leaders) remember what they did when they were in power,” he said.

Completion of 6 months on Friday

The Chief Minister said a function will be held on Friday, January 28 on the occasion of completion of six months of his government, when a booklet on the government’s performance and achievements during the last six months will be released.

“Ours is a responsive and pro-people government. There is no need for holding a big function or rally to mark 100 days or 6 months or any other event,” Bommai said.

However, he said the ministers will carry out a campaign during the next week on the achievements and performances of their respective departments through the media.

Madhuswamy said the State Cabinet discussed the demand of farmers for procurement of jowar and has been approved. The demand for procurement of ragi will be placed before the Cabinet sub-committee and a decision will be taken.

The Chief Minister said the ruling BJP will be holding Chintan-Manthan Baitaks in the coming days and coordinate the work between the party and the government.

Responding to questions on Congress party raising objections to allowing the Bangalore Ultra Derby at the Race Course, the Chief Minister made it clear that large assembly of crowds will not be allowed. The Covid guidelines must be strictly followed and action will be taken if there are any violations, he said.

Earlier in the morning, a delegation of leaders of Chikkamagalur district under the leadership of BJP National General Secretary CT Ravi, Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Jeevarj, MLAs MP Kumaraswamy and Belliprakash called on the Chief Minister and discussed the problems of the district.
