Udupi, Jan 13: "During the last two years it has been around, Covid has taught us many things in life. Let us follow the path of self-reliance taught by the pandemic. Let us have concern for our own native places and our own people," advised Sri Ishapriya Theertha Swamiji, Paryaya Swamiji of Sri Krishna Math here.

The Swamiji addressed a press meet organized at Kanaka Mantap of Sri Krishna Math on Wednesday January 12, a week ahead of his successful completion of two-year Paryaya period at the end of which he is scheduled to hand over reins to the Swamiji of Krishnapur Math.

"In order to make sure that the culture of our native places stays unharmed and to retain its original fragrance, we need to create employment opportunities here. Instead of going away in search of jobs to unknown places or countries, we have to find some vocation here and continue to live here. The youth need to learn to live in an environment where family culture and coexistence are practiced. Let us respect all other cultures, but let us retain and promote Indian culture that is a role model for the entire world," he exhorted.

Swamiji said that during his Paryaya period, he had made some changes in the environment of Sri Krishna Math and spread awareness about the need to reduce the use of plastic. He said that he has put in efforts in this direction during his two years at the helm, and has witnessed changes happening and the people imbibing these ideals in their lives. He said that people have to develop a culture of undertaking pilgrimages, and absorb noble qualities one finds elsewhere while continuing to nurture individuality.

The Swamiji pointed out that the Math made use of the lockdown period in a good way by getting the walls of the Math painted during this period. He hailed the media for functioning in an ideal way during the two years of his Paryaya period and thanked it for working as a link and conveying the messages on behalf of the Math to the people.

"I had not made any resolutions when ascending the Paryaya throne. In future also this policy will be maintained. We will respond to the situations as and when we come across them as per the demands of the occasion," he explained. The Swamiji also said that he has done what is expected of him from time to time, and everything has been dedicated to the lotus feet of Lord Krishna.
