Mangaluru, Dec 17: Popular Front of India (PFI) activists staged a massive protest ‘SP Chalo’ here at Clock Tower on Friday December 17, condemning the police for resorting to lathi- charge during a peaceful protest outside Uppinangady police station. The protestors also urged the release innocent activists who are in police custody.

PFI took out a rally from Hampankatta circle to Clock Tower. A large crowd gathered raising slogans against the police.

The police had barricaded the area near Clock Tower, townhall and Hampankatta. Security was also beefed up.

The protestors were stopped at Clock Tower from moving further towards the police superintendent’s office.

The protestors demanded the suspension the police personnel who is allegedly responsible for the violence at Uppinangady police station.

The protestors handed over their memorandum to superintendent of police Rishikesh Sonawane who arrived to the spot.

Addressing the gathering, SDPI leader Shafi Bellare said, “If the public have to bring the accused to police station, why are the police personnel drawing salary from the government? T D Nagraj provoked by saying pistol and lathi has no religion. The so called police could not take any action against the one who gave openly threatened the deputy commissioner.”

Earlier, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar had denied permission for procession beyond the Clock Tower.

Police deployed more than 600 personnel which includes 4 KSRP, 5 CAR, 6 ACP, 16 inspectors and 32 sub inspectors.

Pistol and lathi has no relegion as a police officer said addressing the pfi protestors.Let us ask him weather his pistol or laathi ever worked against chaddi goons ... definitely not....Even lot of complaint filed against kalladka bhatta for maligning our relegion and community......Can we expect any guts from even single police office to call kalladka bhatta for at least enquiry........This kind of police station Chalo programme started by chaddies in 1998 suratkal riots and what that time police IGP told justifying the release of accused was so jokey.....Communalism and it's vote gain has spoiled our coastal belt ....

Farmers Protest-2 is now brewing in Karnataka. All this happens only in BJP ruled states. This is BJP’s Development since 2014, exactly opposite to its promises. All our tax money and state resources are spent on these anti-social activities by BJP govt. Any more money sanctioned by this govt for some name sake project but money is channeled to these criminal activities??????…….

Dear Mohammed, India, You made a pertinent point. Everyone pays taxes. Indirect tax (GST and all other taxes) is in the range of 9~28%, if they want to only. But most pucture-wala in Bangalore do not give receipt and will bet that they do not pay any tax. So, do not blindly take the argument of being tax payer used in US in India. Less than 1% pay income tax and that is the reason why VAT and today GST is prevalent. If everyone paid tax, we need not have had 30% tax slab in India for genuine income tax payers. We have 130 Cr people in this country and 1% pays income tax.

It's high time this useless party is banned. Don't you have any common sense on conducting protests? During peak hours when college and schools let go they start their nakra. How much will the students and common man suffer? There was no autos and buses. Last time also during the shooting incident same happened.
