Mangaluru, Dec 3: Locals in Gujjarakere protested on Friday December 3 and demanded the students to vacate the college hostel after the two groups of students engaged in a clash on the night of December 2.

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar visited the spot and interacted with the locals.

Locals complained that the students of the hostel are creating nuisance every day, but last night it crossed the limits. Locals also alleged that the students scream, tease and create a lot of nuisance by driving rashly on the streets late in the night.

They also alleged that during Deepavali, some students threw crackers to their neighbours’ house from the hostel balcony. They even move semi-naked in the balcony, alleged a few.

On December 2, the students clashed with each other and later attacked cops who intervened. They also pelted stones, broke window panes of security room and damaged the security access system.

The locals staged protest against the hostel and the management of the college demanding the students to vacate the college hostel.

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “Six students have been detained and two cases has been filed at Pandeshwar police station. Even locals are willing to file complaints.”

Principal of the college whose students engaged in the brawl said, “We have a ragging committee and frequently send reports to the concerned. A student named Adarsh has been suspended thrice. We still allowed him to pursue his studies. In a few days time, we will suspend him again.”

She also urged to give some time to resolve the issues and apologised to the locals for the incident.

VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell and MLA Vedavyas Kamath also visited the spot.

Riff raffs from neighbouring State enter by paying huge capitation fees, they just want to create nuisance and have fun, not interested in studies. The mushrooming of colleges in Mangalore is the root cause of all this problem. Greedy managements are responsible partly, they should be held responsible. Why is the Media not mentioning the name of this institution, the name of the Principal ? Are these more important than the people who got injured, insulted and the Policemen who got thrashed?

Don't deveate from the main issue. We are also facing problems in our area from these mallus. They are unfit to be called students. They are throwing garbage on road, , dscreaming, howling, playing loud music disturbing the neighbours, cosuming drugs, roaming with bare body in balcony ,fight with locals, speeding bike ,cars throughout night and so on .its high time police to visit all such places and gather information about the problems created by these people as take strict action

Many of these so called leaders run security agencies - protection for businesses rackets etc- and other mafia type businesses - late night allowing restaurants etc etc -- not mentionable also -- even so called minority communities- are taken care off -- by such elements ---- many followers are fed up and have left these organizations - knowing after the age of say thirty when family responsibility starts no one around -no savings -- but leaders have amassed wealth and are doing good -- They have a grand image creation - protectors of hindus etc etc- these are known facts and to be exposed --

Nothing will happen. Residents can just stop wasting time and vomit hatred. So wat if the students dont wear shirts in their hostel rooms. Uncles at home also dont wear shirt inside their home. Chottu leaders came for some tips but they dont know that the owner deals with the boss i think.

Then who will afford to pay such high fees and fill the overflowing seats in the mushrooming pvt colleges; most will have to shut shop without these students like the pvt PUC colleges.

Large mushrooming of professional colleges by greedy groups with out much credentials, and offering seats for pass class, dibbu, students even in professional courses with high fees has led to a large influx of third grade students with rich backgrounds where they are free to enjoy life with no guardians to oversee; also the PG owners are not bothered as far as they get their inflated rentals. Most of these students manage to get their degrees by hook or by crook, even by devious methods, come here only to enjoy life; so everybody involved in this loop is happy; whereby the quality of education has gone down a lot; this does not augur well for this once glorious city!

Further to my previous comments .... This is the real incident i saw in Bangalore 3 years back. A north Indian group was fighting and creating nuisance in one of the residential colony of Malleshwaram. Local warned 2-3 times and but they continued. One day evening around 7.30 PM, 10-15 locals gathered and hit the miscreants group black and blue, left and right. Police came and did not do anything for locals because all were united. Since then our locality is calm and clean.

You need to understand why the difference, here In Mangalore/udupi locals don't get into police or other influential govt jobs, so even the police and other govt departments here are all outsiders, unlike other places where locals usually have got rapport with the police or other govt departments . Hence they can be take such actions , where as here locals fear if they do such things they will have police case filed on them and there will be no one to bail them out!!!

If it was Bangalore/Mandya, locals would have sent the miscreants back home. Silence is good. But silence against violence is our weakness. We need to teach Mallus a good lesson like how Kannadigas did to troublesome Tamilians in Bangalore.

These things occur because police does not take any preventive or curative action or punitive when local residents complain. They only take a statement which is useless. Sometimes they find fault with the complainant!!! Responsibility should be fixed with the jurisdictional police station and the officials be dismissed if such incidents occour.
