Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Dec 3: Police have arrested eight people in connection with four separate incidents that took place near Morgans Gate of the city near a private college’s hostel.

On December 2, around 6.45 pm Adarsh Prem Kumar was speaking to his girl friend and also playing with a dog near the college hostel at Morgansgate. In the meantime, accused Sinan, his six friends and around 75 to 100 hostel inmates started abusing Adarsh Prem Kumar and pelted interlocks and stones with the intention of killing him. They also attacked Mohammed Nasif, who came to rescue Adarsh. A case of attempt to murder is registered in this connection and four people are arrested.

One more case of attempt to murder is registered in Mangaluru South police station as per the complaint filed by Sinan on accused Adarsh Prem Kumar and four others. Four people are arrested in this connection.

On December 2, at around 10.20 pm, Adarsh Prem Kumar approached the South police station of the city and requested the cops to provide protection to his friends Shenil and Shravan, who tried to resolve the attack by a rival gang in the evening of the same day. PSI Sheetal Alagoor went to the hostel of the college along with her station personnel to provide protection to Shenil and Shravan. She introduced herself to hostel warden Santhosh K and was walking towards the hostel room, when around 100 to 150 hostel inmates obstructed the police personnel from carrying out their duties and assaulted them with lethal weapons and damaged the property of the hostel also. The loss incurred is said to be around Rs 30,000. A case in this connection is registered at the south police station. Eight police personnel were injured in this attack by the students.

On December 2, around 10.45 pm, Vikyath Shetty was coming to Gujjarakere after completing his personal work, when 100 to 150 students of the college hostel were screaming. Though the PSI and police personnel were requesting the hostel inmates not to shout and create disturbance in the locality, they did not pay heed and started throwing stones and glass pieces on the houses of locals. Vikyath Shetty and others got injured due to this ruckus created by the hostel inmates. The loss is estimated to be Rs 10,000. A case in this connection is registered at the south police station.

When the eight people, who were arrested with regards to the ruckus created at the college hostel, were subjected to Narcotic test at A J hospital it is confirmed that four of them had indeed consumed Ganja. A separate case under DPS act is registered on them.

Look at the audacity. The reason they have this audacity is that mallus are united with culture and state regardless of religion..If a muslim mallu has the option of supporting a hindu mallu and muslim guy from other state, he will surely support his fellow hindu mallu..Somehow they are bound by culture and region. They know our sorry state of affairs .Its only in karnataka that we dont see eye to eye.So its very easy for outsiders to create nuisance amd beat up locals. If this happened elsewhere, those mallus would have now been lying in hospitals.Anybody remember the swiggy and empire incident in bengaluru where swiggy guys were beaten black and blue..?

Just imagine; if these ordinary, imported, students have the audacity to attack police on duty, what they would do to a common man; this proves how much of respect they have for the local policemen? Also, in a lighter vein, using stones and brickbats means Mangalore is degrading to the stone ages??

Strict laws should be there for hostels and paying guest accommodation. Police has to take very strong action against all the culprits involved in this. College has to take strict action against all of them and don't allow them to attend the classes. Before giving the admission college has to take an agreements singed by the students and there parents/local guardians agreeing that if the student is involved in any illegal activities/fighting due to the clashes there admission will be cancelled and terminated from the college and will not allow to continue, for which they are held responsible. It is also better to take a PCC (Police Clearance Certificate) from the local police station of the residing/native place of the student.

There is already a rule that Aadhaar etc should be obtained from paying guests by the owner. These rules were made to prevent terrorists using such accommodation for sleeper cells. This is strictly followed in North India and owners are fined for non compliance. Even after the most wanted terrorist Yasmin Bhatkal stayed at an apartment for a long time undetected, today no checking is done. The same rules are there for PG Accommodation, but there are no checks. If the jurisdictional police station and thier officials are made accountable and punished for any untoward incident in the area, things might change.

Mallu youths have very poor morals these days, fighting drug abuse and other issues is irritating and disturbing the peace of local people. I have personally faced the same issues near my place a month back.

Mangalore, once a serene and unpolluted place has lost most of it's charm due to influx of outsiders who indulge and have made it a hub of all sorts of criminal activities, what with the lax law and order system! A time will come when outside goons will rule the roost most localities are busy in their own world!

Very sad. Students focus should have been on studies to become self reliant and to become responsible citizens to self, family, society and the Country. When the PURPOSE is lost in the mind, chaos prevails. There are many to mislead but one shouldn't loose sight of their purpose.
