Udupi, Dec 1: Nothing is impossible in this world, if one has the will to work hard with single-minded devotion. There is definitely a way to reach one's destination. For the first of its kind, a person from here has transformed an AC motor scooter into a two wheel drive featured e-scooter. Many efforts have been made before on it without much success. At last this man has completed it successfully after efforts lasting two months.

Jayaprakash, an IT support engineer worked at NIC department of Manipal. Driven by his ambition and to realize his dream, he resigned from his job. At present, he is staying in a small cottage with his family. He drives an auto rickshaw during his free time. Now he has built a multi motor-powered unique E-scooter, which is suitable for all roads.

“These days, fuel prices keep soaring every now and then. People are looking for a substitute for petrol and diesel. Hence, this is the best solution for all your needs,” says Jayaprakash.

He has designed and developed many EV motors by converting Petrol vehicles in battery operated EV models. Now he has developed an AC motor E-scooter.

Jayaprakash says, “The concept of electric vehicle was conceived in my mind a few years back and I started working on it. I went to learn about this technology in 2009, as I did not know about DC motors. My dream was to have an E- sports bike and I achieved it. Its performance was good. I designed an e-cycle also.

"This unique multi motor powered scooter concept was successfully implemented by me for the first time in India. The durability of the battery is a minimum five years and I have my own spot welding machine and I will provide batteries. I would like to work on many such projects in the days to come. I am looking forward to getting a good opportunity.

“Especially to say something about 2WD, this is a new task assigned by Dr Ujjal Bose, assistant professor, MAHE, Manipal. I have utilized the old Vespa 1946 model for my experiment, which was scrapped. I spent around Rs 75,000 on its modification. Here I have used a lithium phosphate battery. There are switches to control two-wheels, it can be adjustable and can operate separately. Indicator lights are fixed in the mirror. There is a need to charge it for a minimum three hours," he adds. Battery capacity is 100 km (one wheel),” he says.

Along with support, Dr Bose invested Rs 75,000 in the project.

Jayaprakash is interested to work in the Research and Development Team of EV vehicle companies in India. He helped school children to make models of solar electricity and other science models/ projects.

He stays in the rural area of Alevoor gram panchayat, near Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pragathi Nagar, Udupi. When he redesigned his R15 bike as an EV bike for the first time, his ability was recognized by various media persons from Udupi district.

But modifying old scooter as hybrid costs come to 65k. With Ola releasing new with five year warranty, he can't be encouraged. Also, no guarantee from company and only personal trust. So, risky. Else, good work. But to leave his job and do his hobby was risky. There are venture capitalists who will invest if he gives some other plan. Best option for him is to take maintainance of Ola scooters. That will provide some much needed funds or cash for future plans.

Electric buses, cars, Auto rickshaw, scooters, bikes, cycles are already in market manufactured by China and other scientifically advanced countries, tested with all the safety measures and exported with min guarantee on the products. Unless government or some big recognized companies steps and supports Jayapraksh's innovative skills it is not going to be viable to market on larger scale.

Nice piece written by Smt. H. Brahmavar. The article will inspire more youngsters to come up with newer ideas for Start-ups in this area. I sponsored this project and assigned it to Mr. Jay Prakash.....as a tribute to my father... by retro-converting his old scooter. Mr. Jay Prakash took the challenge like a champion. The result is a product which is a beauty to behold with tremendous functionality and potential.......
