Minister Dr Ashwath Narayan pedals stretch of 4.2 kms on Bicycle Day

Bengaluru, Nov 28: To draw attention of citizens on the importance of sustainable development and healthy life style, Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan participated in the Bicycle Day in his Malleswaram Assembly constituency on Sunday and himself rode a bicycle pedaling a stretch of 4.2 kms and thereby won the applause of the youngsters and people.

Dr Narayan said cycling is becoming popular even in developed countries owing to increased concern over environment and individual health. Nowadays dedicated bicycle lanes are being constructed in some of the countries.

Doing things which require shorter time walking on foot or by cycling will reduce sound pollution and air pollution besides helping to keep physical fitness, the Minister opined.

The bicycle ride began at 18th cross, Malleswaram, ended at the same place after covering a distance of 4.2 kms via Maramma circle, Yaswanthapura circle and bus route 90 stretch. Minister Dr Narayana pedalled the bicycle along the entire ride in which around 150 cyclists of all age groups participated.

On the occasion, Dr Narayana and padmashri awardee K Y Venkatesh, a para athlete handed over mementos to cyclists who rode the 104 km in a route resembling the map of Karnataka as a mark to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava.

This was followed by a ladies only cycle ride flagged off by Bicycle Councillor Arvind Dwarakanath in which over 50 women rode the same stretch. As part of the event live music, street games were held on the blocked stretch and special needs children from Tamahar School graced the occasion and also cycled within the BWSSB compound.

Krishna Panyam, Bicycle Councillors of Malleswaram and others were present. ‘Bicycle Day’ will be held on any Sunday of every month for consecutive three months. Permission for the bicycle day has been given by DULT and will be held for three consecutive months from November to January 2022. This is an enablement program to wake up citizens and requesting them to either Cycle or walk towards any activity that is 15 minutes and lesser.

Kaveri Kedaranath of BJP Mahila Morcha flagged off the event which was organized by CFAM (Council for Active Mobility) and DULT (Directorate of Urban Land Transportation.

Minister flags off Ride for Appu Bike Rally

Earlier, the minister flagged off the Ride for Appu bike rally organized by Team Dwichakra in association with Inchara studio he told, Appu will continue to inspire generations to come.

Puneet Rajkumar will remain as an inspiring personality forever through his acting and social service activities, Dr Narayana said.

Flagging off the Bike Rally, he said the achievements of Appu are spreading to every corner day by day. This should motivate all of us including the student community.

Everyone should attempt to attain excellence in his/her chosen field along with having a pro-people outlook. Around 200 riders participated in the bike rally held from Freedom Park to the burial place of Appu.

In remembrance of Appu who had been involved in the helmet awareness campaign, all the riders wore helmets. Minister Narayana also flagged off the event by riding the bike wearing helmet.
