Mangaluru: Temperature soaring - May breach 35 degree Celsius mark

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 11: At a time when the rainfall is receding, sunshine is getting brighter. Even in areas where rainfall is experienced in the evening, temperature has been climbing in the day. The climate feels as if it is peak summer.

With the rainfall coming down, maximum temperature began to jump above 30 degrees. On October 2, it reached 32 degree Celsius, which happened to be the highest in recent days. As different regions get rainfall during the night, the night temperature eases to a comfortable 20 to 22 degree Celsius. However, sunshine gets bright very early in the morning and people who go out under the sun get tired easily.

On certain days during October and November last year, temperatures reached spots which happened to be the highest in the country. On a few days then, the temperature had crossed 35 degree Celsius and on a day in November it even reached 36.4 degree. Meteorological experts expect 35 degree Celsius temperature to be reached this time too.

As against good monsoon rains in the previous years, this time the rainfall was considerably less. Therefore, there is the apprehension about water shortage gripping the coast in summer. As the foot of the Western Ghat is receiving rainfall, currently all the rivers have good inflow of water. Moreover the rainfall in October has been good and therefore, there is also hope that water shortage might not hit us. The agriculturists have not faced water shortage.

The maximum temperatures recorded in the coast during October during the last four years were 33.5 in October 2020, 34.3 in October 2019, 36.1 in 2018 and 34 in 2017.

Karnataka state natural disaster management committee scientist, Sunil Gavaskar, says that monsoon is getting weaker and soon post monsoon rains will start. He says that even then the day temperature is likely to rise.

In the name of development, we are doing the worst possible, without thinking about the tomorrow. Mother nature will hit back for all the wrong-doings. Finally it has to be like saying "Maadiddunno Maaraya"..
