High court dismisses plea against Mangaluru International Airport's privatisation

Bengaluru, Sep 14 (IANS): The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by Airports Authority Employees Union challenging the privatisation of Mangaluru International Airport.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum opined that since leasing the airports is a policy decision taken by the Centre, no interference is needed from courts on the lines of the decision by Kerala High Court.

The petition challenged the Centre's decision to privatise six airports terming it as illegal, arbitrary and beyond the scope of the Airport Authority Act.

Senior advocate Ashok Harnalli, who appeared for petitioners, argued that there was no revenue sharing with the government. Even though it is called a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the control over aviation services is given to the (private parties), and it is against laws, he argued.

Senior counsel M.B. Nargund, appearing for the Centre, brought to the notice of the court that the same petitioner filed a plea before the Kerala High Court and it has been rejected.

This is norm around the world .Most of the international airports are privatized for better services .Its only management and maintenance. I support the Govt in this regard. The lazy employees who enjoyed once upon a time are now on a leash and monitored. The same with bank employees. The rude attitude of some bank employees have gone now. Its perform or perish. Why dont we support such moves? We have to be fair keeping party affiliations apart.

Very good move by the court. These Govt employees had a ball of time .Coming to work 3 -4 hours late and going an hour early with numerous tea or smoke breaks. There were employees who were on the payroll but not seen in the airport campus for years. They were working elsewhere in Pvt companies and just drawing a fat salary from the airport. Their jobs were done by the poor contractors who were hired for some other jobs. Contractors had to put in extra hours after office hours to compensate. Sharing of loot from innocent passengers were a norm. Now since privatization all these xhit does not happen. Hence these employees are frustrated. Our grand old party chelas support these type of system and hence lose their vote base.

Why not S. Shetty Airport? Think about it. After all you Shetty people are numero-uno considering the hotels owned in the whole of Karnataka. Why Karnataka, even in Bombay also they reign supreme. Hotels in the middle class suburbs of New Bombay like Vashi, Nerul, Airoli far flung suburbs beyond Bombay jurisdiction like Thane, Dombivli, Kalyan and many more within the precincts of Greater Bombay jurisdiction on Central Railway line ... like Mulund, Bhandup, Ghatkopar and on the STINKING RICH AFFLUENT suburbs on the Western Railway areas. The list is endless. So give it a serious thought and take the suggestion in a positive frame of mind.

Some people were blowing trumpet other day as if they chased Adani from Mlore . frustated loosers were saying hurray hurray in this forum . Today same are claiming Modi Power. I said theb that no sane lawyer will take the case as it does not have any merit . Mlore is not the first airprot to be privatised in India . Like it or not ,that's the way forward and we have to live with it . Somejobless can olay petty politics over some irrelevant Board issue .

Readers, the government of India, primarily responsiblity is to streamline the administration of our nation... Take a hard look, at our PSU... almost all have become " White Elephants " draining away our tax paid revenues... The High Court of Karnataka has rightly dismissed the plea against privatization of our sick enterprises.

Money for leasing the Airport to Adani group will be peoples money in various banks that will be made easily available to these Crony Capitalists Adani and Ambani and if they are unable to pay back then the Loans are waived of by the Govt. The national properties are being sold -- rather squandered away by the Modi government as a "clearance sale"."The Rs six lakh crore sale of India's properties is shocking as the Modi government has put India's every public asset on sale," These include, 27,000 kms of highways, 6,000 MW of power generation and 28,000 kms of power transmission lines, 8,000 kms of gas pipeline, 210 lakh metric ton of foodgrain storage, 2.86 lakh kms of telecom fibre and 15,000 telecom towers, 25 airports, nine ports, 761 mining blocks, two national stadiums, 1.52 lakh crore worth of railway property.

Privatization means employees too are privately chosen?????……..Public assets’s 100% revenue goes to private company then as per the under hand deal 75% is given in cash to BJP high command without any documentary proof. Very good privatization is going on under BJP Gujju govt.
