Mysuru, Sep 14: MP Pratap Simha said that the chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, has assured to pass an order to stop demolition operations of Hindu religious structures standing in public places for the present.

Speaking at a press conference held here on Monday September 13, he said he had a telephonic discussion with the chief minister on the temple clearance operation of the district administration here. "I read out the Supreme Court order to him. I explained to him that the court had never instructed to clear the temples. Therefore, the chief minister will pass an order to stop demolitions for the time being. He will announce the new order at the assembly session," he said.

Simha said that the officials are misleading the concerned by claiming that there is Supreme Court order. "Uchchagani Mahadevamma temple at Nanjangud was not creating any traffic obstacles. Still, this temple was demolished. The structure was razed to the ground without shifting the idol of the deity. Steps need to be taken against Nanjangud tahsildar for this lapse," he demanded.

Pratap Simha said that a list of 92 temples proposed to be demolished in the district has been prepared. He demanded formation of a separate board on the model of Wakf Board to manage Hindu temples, adding that such an arrangement will ensure that problems of this kind will not arise.
