Audience at ‘Preston Mela’ appreciates live Yakshagana performance

Preston (United Kingdom), Sep 13: The mini performance of Yakshagana that was included for the first time in the 19th South Asia cultural festival, Preston Mela, England was commended by the audience.

Non-resident Kannadiga Dr Laxminarayana Gudoor who was one among the audience in the fair has given the information.

Classical music, dances, music, cine dances and Bangda dances are displayed by well-known artists migrated to the country in the multicultural art exhibition of Indian concept under the title ‘Mela’. People of Asian origin and local people arrive to watch the variety of arts shown at Preston city every year under the sponsorship of Arts council of England and Preston city council.

Yakshagana was performed this year by the initiative of Kundapur based senior artiste Shanta Rao who runs Annapurna Indian dance organization in England for a long time. Sunidhi Maravanthe, daughter of Yogindra Maravathe who has been staying at Bristol, England and showing fragments of Yakshagana performed a dance based scene of wildlife as per the wish of sponsors.

The process of costumes of the father and her daughter converting a tent into a square shaped house attracted the audience. Some people in the audience could be seen imitating them. The pictures of Yakshagana were published in the local newspapers and facebook, said Dr Laxminarayana.

Prasanna Bhat Balkal, Raghavendra Heggade Yallapur and Rakesh Mallya Halladi provide recorded background during the performances. The artistes use the costumes prepared by Yakshagana artiste Sridhar Ganiga.
