Mangaluru: Childless couple feeds street dogs to forget pain

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Sep 7: Police sub-inspector Poovappa likes to share whatever he has with the others. He lives in the police quarters here. The couple loves animals very much. Poovappa and his wife are dejected at the fact that they have not been blessed with children. To drive away this shortcoming, they feed the street dogs every day.

Poovappa is a reserve police sub-inspector here. He has completed 32 years of service. His wife Ragini, is a housewife. They provide sumptuous non-vegetarian food to a number of street dogs on a daily basis.

The couple has been living in the police quarters here for the last 15 years. Since then, they have been satiating the hunger of about 27 street dogs living in the area. Twice every day they provide non-vegetarian food to the dogs. The couple spends about Rs 15,000 every month just for feeding these dogs.

It is learnt that the couple provides only chicken, leg pieces and other good quality food to the dogs. Ragini prepares tasty non-vegetarian food for the dogs and takes care never to feed leftovers or stale food to the canines. If any dog is found to be sick, she provides milk and biscuits apart from treating the animal.

When Poovappa and his wife have to be away in case of emergencies, they ask the colleagues to provide food to the dogs in their absence. The couple, who are forgetting the pain of not having children by feeding the dogs, are doing praiseworthy work by providing food to the street dogs.

Everything said and done looks good - Feeding STRAY DOGS. But do the authorities take care of the chaos the stray dogs create to the common man on the road especially early mornings and late at night?I am sure NO. Good to see that somebody is kind to animals. Let us also learn to be kind to humans. May God grant this wisdom to all.

Santhan Mascarenhas Kinnigoli,Bangalore,Of course you are right. But the fact is not every IVF will be successful, and it has its own Problems.Do you know how much the woman has to suffer sometimes and still not successful ?Costs? But for this couple it is bit late I think, and may be they had their own problems,we should forget it not to pain them now .still I am sure they are suffering in their heart,But no way to feed stray dogs.Later dogs will wait on streets that everyone who comes that way for food when not given they start to bark ,follow and even bite in a hungry state,so Govt.must stop it,and feed them in a seperate place for all .You say you dont understand todays world childless couple undergo pain?May be because you are blessed with children?I feel pity for them.

Jacy, i disagree with you. Street dogs if they are fed everyday there is no chance of biting anyone. Animals bite in desperation due hunger, sickness or disease. If we humans dont take care poor souls nobody will, they also have a right to live. if we dont feed them than there is nobody else to feed them. Learn to love the animals

Such dogs gets time to time some food from the animal generosity of the animal lovers and stray dogs numbers may increase by passing of time and they make the surrounding their own kingdom. The surrounding area will be full of dogs bark and may pose danger to the people in the night time too. Some arrangement must be made to contro their population by sterilizing them to minimize their increase in numbers. Of couse its the duty of government vaternary depart. All will be sou nd.

If the couple are so depresses for not having their own children and are able to find solace in feeding the stray canines, they could have very well adopted a needy child and helped many more needy orphans. Feeding the street dogs in open has its own untoward social consequences.

Prem chandra, Mangalore: dogs will remember the person feeding them more than human beings. So if they find happiness in them what's the problem for others. Incase if they start troubling people then action can be taken. If there is no problem for common man then what the issue in feeding the dogs as they wish.

I do not agree with the statement that the childless couple undergo pain in today's world. The children who are brought up with good upbringing will become good in their adulthood is true in some cases, but, in general, it is only a probability and a fond hope, and such thinking is debatable in today's environment. Some may not have children due to fertility, but there are many who do not have children, because they want to continue their profession and to have a comfortable life and some because, they cannot afford to have children and give them a good future. The children will look after us at our old age is only a desire and everyone should not rely on that school of thinking. Those who really want to have children, can adopt them or go thru In vitro fertilization. One should not bother about what people say for being childless.

Shanker Mangalore,I have a better idea.Only dont think I am against dog feedingor adapting them.I find feeding street dogs ,problem will be more noice ,and they themselves increase day by day.Instead I would suggest or too go to some shrines or ashrams where parentless children ,spend time with them. They too will be happy .They can even adapt one of them ,so that in their olden days they have some company and happier.Same time give a child a home with love and affection.

Feeding dogs good. I too appreciate his love toward animals. But certain system one should follow. Don't feed them on the road. Take them inside the compound and feed. I have seen these street dogs in bejai area not one or two, but more then 15 in a group disturb full night roaming on the road and fighting, and difficult for early morning walkers. What's the solution for this.???.

Feeding and caring animals is also a part of humanity. Man is given dominion over animals, not vice-versa. And slaughtering animals and consuming meat isn't in human. Love certain animals and kill mercilessly others to satisfy our taste. What a logic. ?People act as per their wish & convenience.

They are doing a good deed. In the mean time they must do a better humanitarian favour by adopting an orphan and take care, educate and settle her when she is ready to settle in life. So many destitute dig the garbage or remain empty stomach. Love towards humans must be a priority.

I know so many people who are having a harrowing time because of having children Present generation children are mannerless. Ultimate is God next comes health. Nowadays we should thank God for not punishing with children

Depends on How one brings up children when they are small and growing. Pamper them give them everything or make them Gods and then they will make you slave! Teach them about life early to do things independently then they are like jewels!!!. Anyways, Looks like God is using covid to correct both careless parents and disobedient children if any.

Children's minds are not coming out of a factory production line. Children, regardless of the upbringing provided by the parents, acquire their behaviour and personality from many sources, especially their friends and social media. So many parents now feel helpless. So, the old belief that parents can mould their children in a particular way is completely outdated. The gods that people create provide no answers (as can be expected).

Nowadays parents don’t even have the time to take care of their own affairs . You think they will devote time in moulding. Gone are those days. These days parents leave the children with nannies, children having android phones , computers ipads and everything mechanical and online Couples get married, next day divorced. They should be thankful they don’t have ungrateful children

John, Mangalore English is a rich widely acclaimed universal language with a unique taste. There's no word anyways in the English dictionary. It is "anyway". Anyway is the correct word choice. Anyways is a colloquial variant of the word anyway. It is universally considered incorrect. Any way (two words) means any particular course, direction, or manner. During my journalism stint with India's No. 1 newspaper "The Indian Express" at Express Towers, Nariman Point, Bombay - 400021 several years ago the same was brought to my attention.

Appreciated! Anyway there should be more, as in this Artificial Intelligence mind control times i neither use grammer check or spell check or so more expected. Even God does not put in black and white, half swallows, so if need to understand, study thoroghly to get intended meaning. Like Bible sometimes one verse in one chapter and another verse in another chapter, need to be linked and read to get or understand the meaning.

I feel its a personal choice. Do whatever that makes you happy. Here the couple feel joy in doing this to forget their pain so let them do. The money that they are spending on dogs is from their own hardwork. Their money their life their choice. All the Best to the couple.

"Childless couple feeds street dogs to forget pain" -- this gives impression that being childless is a big pain... may or may not be... the report should have been drafted with more sensitivity not portraying that being childless is a pain to be forgotten, and as if this causes dejection to all childless couples... there are many couple who do not have children, all the same do not consider that as a pain or cause for dejection...
