Mysuru: Gang rape of girl student – Five accused sent to 10 days police custody

Mysuru, Aug 29: Five accused of the gang-rape case of a girl student that took place five days ago at the foothills of Chamundeswari Devi hills are taken into custody by the police.

On the night of Saturday, August 28, Third JMFC court of the city ordered police custody of the accused for 10 days. Police are investigating the case very seriously as this has attracted the attention of the nation.

The five accused were subjected to intensive interrogation by the police on Saturday, August 28. The interrogation is being held at an unknown location of the city. It is said that police commissioner Chandragupta himself is involved in the interrogation.

DGP Praveen Sood visited Mysuru on Saturday and held a press conference. According to the information shared by him, there are six accused in the case. One is absconding at the moment. Out of the five apprehended, one maybe 17 years old. His birth records are being verified. All six accused are natives of Tirupur of Tamilnadu. They come to Mysuru frequently to sell vegetables. Before returning to Tamilnadu, after selling the vegetables, they go to the foothills of Chamundeshwari Devi hills and consume liquor and have a party. However, there is the accusation that they sexually assaulted the girl student on August 24.

On August 24 between 7 pm to 8 pm, the victim girl and her male friend were at the deserted place at the foothills of Chamundeshwari Devi hills when the six accused allegedly attacked them and beat the boy first. He fell unconscious. When the male friend of the victim regained consciousness, they asked him to call his family members and placed a demand for Rs three lac. When they realized that their demand would not be met, they sexually assaulted the girl.

The victim girl is not in a position to give any information on the incident. She has left for her native place in Maharashtra. The male friend of the victim, who was at the spot of the incident, has given some incomplete statements. However, on the basis of scientific evidence, police have tracked the culprits from Tirupur of Tamilnadu.
