Congress leaders protest before Raj Bhavan against phone tapping, held, released

Bengaluru, Jul 22: Senior leaders of State Congress led by party’s Opposition leader in Assembly Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D K Shivakumar staged a ``lay seize to Raj Bhavan protest’’ against the Narendra Modi government’s telephone tapping by using Israel’s Pegausus Spyware against leaders of Congress party and other political parties, including a sitting judge of Supreme Court, in front of Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

Opposition leader in the State Legislative Council S R Patil, senior Congress leaders Allum Veerabhadrappa, B Ramalinga Reddy, Saleem Ahmed< K R Ramesh Kumar, Krishna C Byregowda, Priyank Kharge, Shivashankar Reddy, Ajay Singh, Narayana Swamy, Shivananda Patil, S Ravi and other leaders took part in the protest.

The Congress leaders assembled in front of the Mahatama Gandhi statue before the Vidhana Soudha and marched in procession towards Raj Bhavan shouting slogans against the Modi government. The blocked the protesters near the General Post Office building in front of Raj Bhavan and took them into custody.

Earlier, KPCC Chief and Siddaramaiah welcomed the newly elected Congress MLA from Maski constituency Basanagouda Thuruvihal.

The KPCC Chief has cancelled his planned meetings in Mangaluru on Friday in order to visit the senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes, who is hospitalized. However, Shivakumar along with AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala will be travelling to Mangaluru to visit Fernandes in the hospital.

The scheduled programmes in Tumakuru on Saturday will be held as planned.
