Mangaluru, Jun 22: Ciera Angel Vas is a 6-year-old girl, daughter of Cyril Vas and Anitha Vas, who is bravely fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia at a tender age.

However, she requires financial assistance urgently in order to defeat the dreaded disease.

According to the medical certificate provided by the doctor Dr Harsha Prasada L, consultant paediatric haematologist/oncologist, Ciera was admitted to KMC Hospital, Mangaluru on June 10, 2021 with c/o gum hypertrophy, fever, tiredness, and neck swelling for the past 8 weeks. Further investigations confirmed the diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML). Further work up of molecular genetics and cytogenetic report is awaited.

Ciera is currently on treatment (Daunorubicin and cytosine arabinoside) as part of AML induction. She will require frequent blood tests, multiple injections, and post induction bone marrow assessment as part of the treatment. In addition to this, she will require antifungal prophylaxis throughout during the treatment. During the treatment, she may develop episodes of febrile neutropenia for which she will require hospitalization and intensive care admission. As AML induction treatment causes prolonged myelosuppression, Ciera will require multiple blood product support during the treatment.

The total treatment would cost around Rs 10-12 lac for the next 4 months.

The family is unable to afford the little girl's treatment and has requested individuals and philanthropists to help Ciera get back to her normal life.
