Kundapur: MLA, DC visit cyclone-affected areas in Maravanthe

Kundapur, May 17: “Tauktae cyclone has caused sea erosion at Byndoor, and damaged houses, boats, fishermen’s shed and property. The officials have been directed to give priority to the safety of people. Gruel centres are opened at two places where more danger is feared,” said Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty. He was speaking after visiting and inspecting the area near Maravanthe fisheries port on Sunday May 16.

“The department officials will prepare and submit a report over the damage that the cyclone caused here. Suitable action will be taken over the emergency measures and compensation after holding discussions with the chief minister, ministers and MP,” he said.

Udupi deputy commissioner (DC) Dr G Jagadeesha said that a report about the destruction caused by the cyclone will be submitted to the government. “The government will be requested to pay compensation for the damages to houses, roads, boats etc.,” he said.

Kundapur sub divisional officer K Raju, Udupi district panchayat chief executive Dr Navin Bhat, Byndoor tahsildar Shobhalaxmi, ports department director Captain Swamy, ports and fisheries department executive engineer Payide, assistant executive engineer Udayakumar Shetty, engineer Vijaya Shetty, fisheries department assistant director Sumalatha, Byndoor mandala BJP president Deepak Kumar Shetty, local gram panchayat president, vice president, members, fishermen leaders and others were present.

The DC also inspected Kanchugodu sea shore area which is severely damaged due to sea erosion and cyclone.
