Udupi’s 69.99% Covid patients recovering in home isolation

Udupi, May 1: As much as 69.99% Covid infected patients are getting cured under home isolation in the district. This has reduced the load of health department.

According to the information provided by the health department as of April 29, there are 2,359 active cases in the district. Out of these 1,650 are in home isolation. The Health department is monitoring their recovery.

In the second wave of Covid, cases are being reported in the district for the past one month. Two adults of Kundapur and Karkala origin, who were suffering from multiple diseases died on April 29 due to Covid. In the period of August-September of 2020 the death rate was one percent. Now, though 500 to 600 cases are reported daily, the death rate is just 0.6%.

Till the end of January 2021, the percentage of people getting cured of coronavirus was 99.22%. But from the month of February it has gone down to 93%. According to health department sources, as the active cases are increasing, the percentage of people getting cured is showing less.

The incidents of people with Covid infection symptoms are increasing. In around 30 percent of the cases, Covid symptoms are seen whereas in the rest 70 percent there are no symptoms at all. Last time the percentage of cases where Covid symptoms were seen was around 30%.

At present 42 hospitals in the district are reserved for Covid patient treatment. The number of hospitals can be increased. In total, there are 2,000 beds in the district. Only 500 are in use now. In government hospitals, ICU rooms are made ready with oxygen, ventilator and health personnel. 75% of the beds of private hospitals are given to the government.

As the cases of coronavirus second wave infections are expected to rise sharply in the month of May, all necessary preparations are made by the district administration. As a part of the same, home care center of 2000 beds is made ready. Nursing homes, hostels, guest houses and libraries at Udupi, Kundapur, Brahmavar, Hebri, Kaup, Karkala and Byndoor are installed with required beds and medical facilities. MAHE has agreed to convert Dr T M A Pai Hospital in the city as Covid hospital.

    But who will take to hospital aa all hospitals ambulances have dissappeared and what about other illnesses. Even know auto drivers will not pickup after 10am
