Mangaluru, Mar 8: Dr Padmanabha Kamath, brain behind 'cardiology at doorsteps' initiative, was praised by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.

On account of Jan Aushadhi Diwas' celebrations on March 7, PM Modi held interaction with the owners of Jan Aushadhi Kendras and beneficiaries at four different parts of the country. Dr Padmanabha Kamath was one of those few people who got an opportunity to participate in the interaction.

Dr Kamath informed the PM that he has been involved with Jan Aushadhi for the last three years. He said he started installing ECG machines in Jan Aushadhi Kendras and trained the owners about its operations so that poor people from villages suffering from heart attacks could be detected without delay. He said that about a hundred heart attack cases were detected and lives of the people were saved. He said he inspired a youth to start Jan Aushadhi Kendra and his Kendra is on top in Mangaluru now.

Narendra Modi wished Padmanabha Kamath for his service oriented approach and felt that he is guided with a mindset of altruism, in his tweet. He appreciated Dr Kamath for making Jan Aushadhi Kendras helpful and successful and thus paving way for healthier life.

if this scheme is initiated properly ( with no politics ) this can be a life saver for many specially places with limited access to medical institutions , I would even suggest govt should introduce strict community service hours for experienced doctors ( not during graduation ) in remote areas so that even poor can get services of experienced doctors
