Mangaluru: Carmel School celebrates Tobacco-Free Day

Mangaluru, Feb 25: Tobacco-Free Day is celebrated on February 24 all over the world.

‘Save your Lungs’. ‘Smoking isn’t Cool’. Carmel School held a short programme to highlight the negative impacts of tobacco on the student body and the health hazards faced by millions of people all over the world.

The programme commenced with a prayer song led by the faculty. The significance of the day and the repercussion on the health of tobacco users was accentuated by Akshatha and Jahnavi who also effectively compered the programme. Students who visited the neighbourhood along with the staff enlightened the street vendors on the harmful effects of tobacco and offered a rose of appreciation for their co-operation in this venture. Niharika and Vaishnavi then shared their experiences with the audience.

A pledge to say ‘Yes to Life and No to Tobacco’ was administered by Sr Sarika, the principal. Sr Rose Agnes, the administrator and Sr Shanthi Lavina, the vice-principal were present at the programme.
