Mangalore, Apr 10 (DHNS): Opposition leader in the Assembly Siddaramaiah urged the government to issue a White Paper on its expenditure towards power generation in the past three-and-half years.

Addressing media persons here on Saturday, he said the white paper should reveal how much of power has been generated in the past three-and-half years and how much money has been spent for the purpose.

“Let them make us clear what they have done towards checking transmission and distribution loss and power theft. Yeddyurappa can’t escape from his responsibilities by just blaming the previous governments,” he said.

CM’s habit

Siddaramaiah said it has become a habit for Yeddyurappa and Eshwarappa to blame the previous governments for the present power crisis. Instead of doing this, they should have solved the problems efficiently, he said.

“The only thing the government has done is signing an agreement with the Chattisgarh government for obtaining additional power. But even land has not been identified in Chattisgarh for setting up the plant. The BJP had even assured the voters that it would produce at least 5,000 mw electricity if it was voted to power,” the Opposition leader said.

“The CM had promised in the Assembly that the government would be purchasing 1,000 mw power immediately to guarantee uninterrupted power supply during SSLC exams. But his assurance has proved hollow,” he criticised.

    R.Bhandarkar, M'lore,

You are right, due to unavailability of frogs this time congressmen have decided to marry their MOS Mr Shashi Tharoor for third time with some beautician from Dubai.

So this time it will rain both in India and Dubai.

Looks like in matters of electricity too these (bug)(beg)gers are looking for a 'windfall' of a different kind!Surely people from different sects have to resort to rituals (remember frog marriages-etc!) of different kinds for rains and even electricity this time round - sigh!!

    Mr Siddu,

Why the white paper how much of power has been generated in the past three-and-half years and how much money has been spent for the purpose , make a white paper since August 15, 1947.

Now Yediyurappa, I know after 20 days Nagarjuna will start producing 500 Megawatts and rain will reduce requirement by another 500 MW, situation might improve substantially.

Now you have 3 more years, at the end of the term, no excuse is good enough, start now and complete all pending power projects, including Gundya "beep" Ramesh, use state funds to complete it, complete Chattisgarh and Bidadi, "beep" environmentalists start Tadadi..., if "double speakers" try to distract you, just shrug them off and ignore them.

Now no free or subsidized power to anybody, if you want to help farmers if you have money in treasury, give money to farmers from treasury,, no free electricity to anybody, this free business is responsible for this state of affairs....

After 3 years if you dont produce more than requirement, just get lost, go home, you are unfit to sit in CMs chair!!!

The government has misplaced priories. Over the last 2 years, by most accounts, nearly 1000 crores were granted to mutts and relious institutions. There seem to be very quick when it comes to religious agendas like the ban on beef, which has actually affected lakhs of families. The Reddy brothers have also looted the exchequer by a huge amount by mining illegally and evadng taxes.

I wonder why the government should concentrate on these things when there are other pressing problems like power, water and infrastruture. It's almost as if they make it clear they don't care for the common man at all.

Mr. Siddaramaiah should not have connected CDP with our minister Krishna Palemar’s business. He did not amass money from politics to build his construction business instead he distributed the money from his construction business to the public cause. One should be honest even in the blame game of their opposition parties.

Karnataka State is going through a power crisis and in the context of the prevailing situation it would be best for MEN IN POWER to go all out to overcome the power crisis. Blaming the previous Government or the the previous people in power does not take us anywhere.

Power can be generated from different sources. Hydro, Wind, Solar and of course thermal and Diesel Generators. To cut the recurring costs down it is worthwhile harnessing natural Sources.

Mr. Loknath D. Bantwal/Iran....Our honourable CM has no value for his promises. When he visited Bahrain last year along with respected madam Shobhaji he made a lengthy speech with a BIG assurance to release one Million rupees in last Budget to construct a building for Kannada Sangha in Bahrain because the function was organized in Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam's budilding. As everyone knows, his assurance/promise has never been fulfilled.

Neither has he any regrets for such failures. He royally takes people (Kannadigas) for a ride. Beleive it or not, we have a very inefficient CM and it will be more evident in coming few months/years. Just wait for a few months and the rate of power will be increased. Remember this prediction. The State treasury is being looted in broad day light in the name of development, but, development is only in the paper. Everyone has set a target to loot as much as possible withing five years. I may sound harsh to some people, but, it is true. The result will be know within few years.

Lokanath D. Iran, Pls note during Congress rule I agree there was power cut but not as it is happening currently. Mangalore is almost dark every day & night without power cut schedule. Congress used to maintain the schedule of power cut due to load shedding so that people of DK were not facing inconvenience. Appreciate the development plans but its unfortunate developments plans are uted without proper study e.g electricity, water, drainage, footpath, parking etc etc... Lack of infrastructure planning would result in serious problems such as extreme shortage of electricity and water. Its not only they get funds and carry out mass development throughout Karnataka. Funds we get need to be utilised more efficiently.

Loknath says congress has done nothing for last 50 years.... Does he mean that he was living without electricity for so many years? without roads for so many years?

Grow up Loknath. Do not speak like your BJP Government which is totally inefficient. People of Karnataka say they have not seen such darkness in last 50 years. All the people are cursing themselves for bringing this government to power

Virtually there is no effective opposition party in Karnataka and opposition failed to take on one to one issue is not up to the level due to the reason of in fighting with in the party.Should opposition party effective in quizzing govt in expected level this could not be happened.Load shedding/power cut are unprecedent in the recent history of Karnataka

What is the CM's bla bla of development with out power??He is misleading the public. Is there is no power available in the national grid??The next step is to increase the price of power(current)in the name of scarcity and loss!!!Increase in the price of fuel,(centre)milk, water, power and FMCG is a great burden passing to the public by Federal and state govt!!

WE THE CITIZENS IRRESPECTIVE OF PARTY AFFILIATIONS SHOULD COME OUT WITH CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM RATHER THAN BLAME GAME.ITS WE CITIZENS AND OUR CHILDREN WHO WILL SUFFER DUE TO THESE POWER CUTS SPECIALLY BEING SEVERE DURING ACUTE SUMMER,POLITICIANS HAVE GOVT BUNGALOWS AND PEFERENTIAL UNINTERRUPTED POWER SUPPLY. AND NOW WITH THE CONCRETE JUNGLE COMING UP WE HAVE TEMPERATURES SIMILAR TO NORTH INDIA OR MIDDLE EAST BUT NO POWER TO COOL US DOWN.POLITICIANS JUST GIVE TALL PROMISES DURING ELECTIONS AND AS SOON AS ELECTIONS ARE FINISHED THEY ARE EITHER MISSING OR GIVING MISLEADING STATEMENTS OR CONFUSING STATEMENTS.HENCE WE CITIZENS SPECIALLY THE EDUCATED LOT SHOULD TAKE UP THESE MATTERS AT FORUMS AND OR MEET THE LEADERS FACE TO FACE PROGRAMMES AND TAKE THEM TO TASK FOR THEIR FAILURES.THEN THEY WILL DO THEIR DUTIES SINCERELY AND BE VERY RESPONSIBLE AND AVOID MAKING LOOSE STATEMENTS
