Sania-Shoaib Marriage is Beacon of Hope for India-Pakistan: Miss Pakistan

by Gurmukh Singh

Toronto, April 5 (IANS) Despite all the drama surrounding the upcoming wedding of Indian tennis star Sania Mirza with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, Miss Pakistan Ayesha Gilani is all too eager to welcome Sania 'bhabhi' to Pakistan and said the marriage would be a "beacon of hope and peace" for bilateral ties.

"Sania bhabhi and Shoaib make a great couple and both are from the sports world, so they suit each other. And I don't think they are that apart in culture as Shoaib also has some remaining family in India,'' the 27-year-old Miss Pakistan told IANS in an interview.

The wedding between the two sports stars, she said, will help thaw the current frosty relations between India and Pakistan.

" I think this marriage can prove to be pretty good to show the world an example of Pakistan and India relations. Of course they may not represent the two nations but at least people can look up to them as a beacon of hope and peace for Pakistan-India relations,'' said Gilani who is currently studying English and Administration in Washington.

However, she was against her 'bhabhi' settling in Dubai. "I would prefer that she settle in Karachi, instead of Dubai as I think it would be better for Shoaib to be in his homeland than any other country. And after marriage, the bride has to live at her husband's home, and Karachi is his home,'' she said.

The Lahore-born beauty also had a word of advice for the groom. "I would expect him to be a good husband and a great father to her children, and to fulfil all what a happy married life needs. That is all one wishes for any marriage.''

Asked about her reaction to some hardliners in India calling Sania unpatriotic for choosing a Pakistani, rather than Indian, as her life partner, she said, "Well, no one can blame love or fate. Calling her unpatriotic is a bit ridiculous, as she has never said that she won't play for India. These are insecurities that certain extremists have and it's unfortunate for them to say such things at such a happy occasion.''

Aware of claims being made by another Hyderabad girl Ayesha Siddiqui that she is already married to Malik, Miss Pakistan said, "We all are innocent until proven guilty. It's tragic when people are blamed for sins they have not committed.

"If Ayesha Siddiqui was married to Shoaib Malik, there should be some proof. There are witnesses, and Nikaah documents. She may also have to prove pregnancy/miscarriage. If she can come up with proof, she should be given a chance to be heard.''

Added her mentor and Miss Pakistan pageant president Sonia Ahmed, "Being in the pageant industry myself, I can relate that people have plenty to say about those in the limelight. It comes with the territory. However, as a woman, I sympathize with Ayesha Siddiqui. If she can produce proof, she should be heard, and Shoaib should take responsibility for his actions.''

As the saying goes, Celebrity marriages never last long. And same goes for umpteen peace initiatives between India and Pak. When Vajpayee took the bus trip to Lahore Musshy was busy launching a covert operation in Kashmir. When the composite dialogue was on, ISI was working overtime to plan the Mumbai strike. Pak army's existence is directly linked to India-Pakistan mistrust. 50 years of talks have led us nowhere. Some out of the box solution including redrawing the map of Pakistan is required. This was indeed part of CIA's plan B if Pakistan refused to come around. In this sense stabilization of Afghanistan is of utmost importance, so that India and Afghanistan can sit together and chalk out the future of Pakistan.

Now miss pakistan is roping publicity of Sania/Shoib drama. Why she cannot say, let Sania demand "meher" dowry from Shoaib, the whole of Pakistan, which at one time belonged to undivided India. There is a greek legend, even marriage led to war, and this spark may lead to all out war between India Pakistan. Or this drama will die down sooner or later and may be archived in the dungeons.

One of the commentator was commenting to daijiworld article: Ayesha's Family Shows 'proof' of Marriage with Shoaib Malik, I quote, abdul sattar habibullah, belapu/Sharjah Saturday, April 03, 2010, Sania media is telling that shoaib is talking in your balcony. How it is possible before marriage bridegroom cannot allowed to the bride's house according to the rules of Holy Islam. I think Mr. abdul sattar habibullah, sharjah, is in a deep sleep. Was not Sania with her previous boy friend engaged and enjoyed both of them without marriage? Although I have not seen whether they have enjoyed or not enjoyed however what the commentators can understand their relationship with together?

Dear Janet Xavier..you are talking like as if you are a religious guru. Every citizen must respect his/her motherland. First nation, then comes other things.Pakistan started terrorism agaisnt India for 2 decades and still continuing. They are our enemies. So love with enemy is a crime. I think no one from your family is serving in Indian Army. You are sleeping nicely becoz our soldiers are having sleepless nights at border. They are sacrificing their future for our future.Nearly 500 soldeirs sacrifieced their life in 2009-2010 ,(equal number of innocent people were killed by terrorists) . Last question ..have you seen Mumbai Taj attack on TV ?

Whats more insulting to we Indians! Sania is a maniac. One cant betray the motherland on the excuses of personal/private life. We have had many martyrs who died for the country. Sania marrying a Paki is an insult to all these martyrs who died fighting british and fighting Pakis. We dont need any more Pakis to visit India. Those who dont have respect for our martys, we dont have respect fro them, let she be a tennis star or super star. I call upon Sania to pack her bag and passport and leave India for ever. India shall produce more and better tennis stars than Sania. She could not win the grandslam. Forget Sania forever. Let her not play for India anymore. We dont need tennis or cricket diplomacy to bridge the gap. Pakistan has never been sincere in diplomacy. We shall be better off without friendship with Pakistan. Why to open our doors for evils? Lets close our door firmly on them. We are planning of akhand bharat...Sania goodbye to you. You have cheated your own motherland, your country...

After reading all the comments I can't believe how ignorant and stupid the people of India are. Please come out of this religions, caste and creed barriers. We are all temporary in this world and we must learn to love and help each other in times of need. Its her personal choice to marry whoever she wants. Does she interfere in your personal lives and see how many affairs you are having or what sins you have committed. Stop acting innocent and grow up and don't behave like an ignorant fool. There are good and bad people in every country. There are many girls like Ayesha who fool people online and on the net and visa versa. If what Shoaib said is true about meeting Ayeshas family but not meeting Ayesha because everytime he wanted to meet her she disappeared because of her weight issue and also because she sent him the wrong picture of another beautiful girl then Ayesha and her family should be charged for cheating and forgery and this marriage will be regarded as null and void. I wish Sania and Shoaib all the best. We have rape and molestation happening everyday in India, does that mean all Indians are rapist??? Love has no boundaries and here in UAE we have many Indians who are happily married to Pakistanis. They will live in Dubai and will play for each others country so don't worry! Please dont take things PERSONAL, what is that you are losing or gaining its NOTHING. We should respect her choice and wish all the best.

Atleast our population will be reduced by one person. Moreover Indian government need not spend lakhs of rupees on Sania who used to get kicked out in the 1st or 2nd round of tennis. I prefer that money being now spent on boxing and badminton who are really doing all Indians proud !!

All said and done we should totally avoid words like "Paki" which is very derogatory. This is akin to calling a black a "Nigger" I am sure we al agree that we should lead by being civilized.

If Sania wants to marry shoaib let her marry but dont try to bridge between India and Pak, we Indians dont want any relation with Paki's.Even we dont want shoaib to come to India again and again nor any other pakistani. We have many talents here more than sania,so sania good bye all the best for your future, but please dont think that we miss u.Mumbai attacks are still raw in our mind and heart, we will never forget that bad tragedy.Miss Ayesha Gilani keep your advice with you. In India we never let anyone (even beggar's) empty handed who come and ask for anything,we think pakistani's as beggar's, so think sania is "bheek" which we Indians gave to you.

Miss Pakistan is absolutely wrong. Indians will die than believing Pakis after Mumbai Taj attack.Actually,in India, common people don't want any type of relationship with Pakistan.I don't understand why our politicians go for TALKS with them inspite of their open support to terrorism agaisnt India.Sania's marriage with Shoiab only increses the tension between Hindus and Muslims here. This is a Golden chance for Bajrang/Shiv Sena/Rama Sena workers to blame Indian Muslims that Indian Muslims love Pakistan and not India" To support their point M.F.Hussain who got money, name took Qatari citizenship.(Had he done that type of nude painiting of GOD anywhere in the world,he would have been imprisoned)Now Sania, (who can't dream wearing mini skirt and play Tennis in Pakistan) who got Intl recognization willing to marry Pakistani. So,dear Shoaib ,pls go back and don't break relationship with India by marrying Indian girl !
