MCCP’s Annual Volleyball and Throwball Tournament

Muscat, Jan 30: The Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish (MCCP – Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi) organized the Annual Volleyball (for Men) and Throw ball (for ladies) at Muscat Sports Club Grounds, Al Wadi Al Kabir on Firday, 29th January 2010.
Suraj Rebello, the president of MCCP and his team members, Prescilla Machado, Monica Dantis, Jessie Pereira, Cyprian Misquith, Lydia Sanctis, Ajith Rajesh Walder, Lavina D'Sa, Mariete Fernandes and Reena Mathias were fully ready before the commencement of the tournament with bright yellow uniform T shirts.
At 11.00 am the program commenced with a prayer offering by Ajith Walder, Sports Secretary of MCCP. Mariete Fernandes, Spiritual Secretary, in her address extended a warm and hearty welcome to the participants and the spectators. The Annual Volleyball and Throw Ball tournament was inaugurated by Jerald Mascarenhas, General Manager of Hamadan Trading Group – Transport Division who was the main sponsor of the event. Jerald Mascarenhas is also an ardent supporter of MCCP and Konkani activities is Muscat. Suraj Rebello and the Executive Committee team members were present during the inauguration ceremony.
For the Volley ball tournament, six teams were formed with eight members in each team. The captains of the teams were Henry Rodrigues, Cyprian Misquith, Donald Fernandes, Ajith Walder, Victor Baptist Pais and Dilip Correa. The tournament was conducted on league basis with 21 points to win. The final match was held between Donald Fernandes team and Victor Baptist Pais team.
After the lunch, which was prepared by Kiran’s Kitchen – Ruwi, throw ball tournament was held for ladies. Four teams were formed with 10 members in each team and the captains were Mariete Fernandes, Lydia Sanctis, Jessie Pereira and Reena Mathias.
The prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Cyprian Misquith, Honorary Treasurer. Jerald Mascarenhas was the Guest of Honor and presented the trophies to the winners. Henry Martis, Core Committee member, presented the prizes to the early bird lucky winners.
Lydia Sanctis proposed Vote of Thanks.
Hamadan Trading Group – Trading Division was the major sponsor of the event. Gration D Souza, Evjeen Helen Sequeira and Raphael Quadros – Zahrat Al Rawdha Trading were the other sponsors.
