'If CAA not related to religion, why not include Muslims': WB BJP leader

New Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS): Chandra Kumar Bose, BJP Vice President for West Bengal, on Tuesday demanded transparency in the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 saying if it was not related to any religion, then Muslims should also be included.

"If CAA, 2019 is not related to any religion why are we stating - Hindu, Sikh, Buddhists, Christians, Parsis and Jains only! Why not include Muslims as well? Let's be transparent," he tweeted.

In a series of tweets, late on Monday night and on Tuesday, Bose also said that India is a nation open to all religions and communities and should not be compared to any other country.

"Don't equate India or compare it with any other nation - as it's a nation open to all religions and communities," he said.

On BJP's stand that Muslims are not being persecuted in their home countries, he said if that is the case, "they would not come, so there's no harm in including them."

However, he added, "this is not entirely true - what about Baloch who live in Pakistan and Afghanistan? What about Ahmadiyyas in Pakistan?"

Bose said the party which would follow the inclusive ideology of Subhas Chandra Bose representing all communities and work for the upliftment of all strata of the society would win Bengal in the 2021 Assembly elections. "The rest would be irrelevant."

Mentioning a religion or excluding a religion need not necessarily make a law unconstitutional or non-secular. Then why specific castes and creeds are mentioned in cases of allotting reservations? First of all CAA is not applicable to Indians who are already citizens of the country. Secondly CAA is not a universal law. It is an exceptional, closed law open for the persecuted refugees of only three neighbouring countries, who happen to be religious minorities. Obviously it is not applicable to the majority community in these countries and also not applicable to citizens of other countries of the world where persecution is rampant. Hence the name of the majority community has been excluded whose members are eligible to obtain citizenship through normal procedure.

CAA in itself clear that it is not based on National identity (Indian) but on religious definition. & identity. During the India - Pakistan patrician time some Hindus opted to go to Pakistan. No one had forced them to settle in that country.
In addition, why Hindus who were/are prosecuted in Sri Lanka are not included in CAA. ?

In srilanka, it was not religious persecution, it was linguistic. Many of LTTE cadres were tamil Christians. Almost all the muslims in srilanka are Tamils. Earlier Sinhalese were against tamil Hindus, Christians & Muslims.

Most Pakis and Afghan muslims will not live in india unless they are persecuted in their country due to not being sunni or political persecution. Bangali muslims and hindus are economic refugees in india...rarely are hindus persecuted there.. CAA law should have only limited bangalis of all religions.
