New Delhi, Dec 21 (IANS): Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Tis Hazari Court on Saturday asked lawyers to move the magistrate court or the Delhi High Court with their grievances on the rights of persons detained after the Daryaganj violence against the new citizenship law.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Arul Varma made the observations while considering an application seeking permission to grant access to lawyers to meet detained persons, and for making available FIR copies of those arrested for protesting the Citizen Amendment Act.

Late Friday night, Varma directed the Daryaganj Police Station SHO to allow the detained persons to meet their lawyers.

Varma had passed the order while hearing a separate application filed by Kirti Awasthi seeking the court's direction to police to let advocates meet the detained individuals.

"I deem it fit to direct SHO Daryaagnj to allow the detainee to meet their advocates in terms of Section 41D of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC)," the judge said.

The court was informed by the lawyers that several persons, including minors, were detained following clashes.

It was also said that some of the injured protesters were kept in detention and that they were in urgent need of medical assistance.
