Mangaluru: ‘Super Hoopers’ basketball tournament hosted by Gonzaga School

Mangaluru, Nov 23: St Aloysius Gonzaga School in association with Association of ICSE and CBSE Schools (AICS) hosted Interschool basketball tournament – Super Hoopers 2019 on Saturday, November 23 at Aloysius Stadium.  Laxman Kunder, managing director, V4 Media was the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering he said, "Team games help to develop team spirit, participation is more important than winning."

The president of the function Fr Denzil W Lobo SJ, appreciated the teams for their enthusiasm and urged the students to play as a team, as teamwork makes the dream work.

While welcoming the gathering the principal Fr Melwyn Anil Lobo SJ encouraged the students with his inspiring words – “Excellence in sports enables to accept success and failure in the same manner.”

Vice principal Jacintha D'Costa, Dr John Pinto, technical manager and Veerendra Alva, the AICS convenor, were the other dignitaries for the day.

Fr Clifford Sequeira, principal of St Aloysius PU College was the chief guest of the valedictory ceremony. Addressing participants he said, "Follow your passion, work hard towards achieving your goals. Participation in sports inspires the players to realise the goal. Winning and losing is part of life."

There were 16 teams from CBSE and ICSE schools of Dakshina Kannada.

Mount Carmel School won the 1st place in the boys’ category while Cambridge School was the runner-up. In the girls’ category, Lourdes Central School won the first place and Manipal School was the runner-up.

Fr Melwyn Anil Lobo SJ congratulated the winners and participants and expressed his gratitude to all for their whole hearted cooperation.

Aparna Suresh and Rasha D'Souza compered the programme.
