Tiruchirappalli(Tamil Nadu), Oct 28: Rescue efforts continued for the fourth day on Monday after a two-year-old boy who fell into an abandoned borewell in a village in Tamil Nadu's Tiruchirappalli district.

On Friday evening, Sujith fell into the borewell while playing with his cousins at about 5.30 pm and got stuck at 30 feet. Later, he further slipped and got stuck at about 100 feet.

The rescue team has drilled a hole around 40 feet deep parallel to the borewell in which Sujith has been trapped.

As per latest reports, the rocky terrain in the region is posing a great difficulty for the drilling process. However, a new drilling machine has also been deployed to hasten the process.

Deputy chief minister of Tamil Nadu O Panneerselvam reached the spot late on Sunday night and consoled Sujith’s parents. Meanwhile, other ministers are monitoring the progress of the rescue efforts.

The boy’s health condition and movements are continuously monitored by officials. State health minister, C Vijayabhaskar confirmed that his cries were last heard on Saturday morning around 5.30 am.

On Saturday, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) took over the rescue operations as other techniques used to take the boy out of the borewell failed.
