Mangaluru, Aug 31: A 41-year-old man died after allegedly being stabbed by his younger brother at their house near Kottara Cross in Mangaluru on Sunday night.

According to the FIR registered at Urwa police station, the complainant, 62-year-old Eravva Guruputra Kumbara, has been residing in a rented house near Kottara Cross for around a year along with her sons Adiveppa and Raju. Both sons were working as labourers in Mangaluru, while their wives were residing separately due to their alleged excessive alcohol consumption.

The FIR states that Adiveppa's wife Rekha resides in Kavoor with their children and used to visit the family occasionally.

On August 30, at around 6 pm, the complainant was running her petty shop near Kottara Cross when her sons Adiveppa and Raju came to the shop after consuming alcohol. Adiveppa took Raju's mobile phone, and the complainant intervened, advised him and returned the phone to Raju. The brothers then went home at around 6.30 pm.

Later, at around 10.30 pm, their neighbour Preetham came to the complainant's shop to purchase some items and returned home. At around 10.45 pm, he came back to the shop and informed the complainant that the two brothers had fought and that there was blood inside the house.

The complainant then alerted the police through Preetham and returned home. She was informed that her younger son Raju had stabbed his elder brother Adiveppa in the chest with a knife. Adiveppa had suffered severe bleeding and was taken by ambulance to Government Wenlock Hospital for treatment.

However, the doctor who examined Adiveppa declared him dead.

The complainant later informed Adiveppa's wife Rekha about the incident and came to the police station along with her to lodge the complaint, resulting in a delay in filing the FIR.

Based on the complaint, Urwa police have registered a case against Raju Kumbara under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Investigation is under way.
