Mangalore, Jul 20:
It is said that rumours spread faster than fire. In such an instance on Monday July 20 early morning, Someshwar near Ullal on the city outskirts attracted crowd in large numbers with a buzz that Asian Forest, Chinese vessel had reached its shores. However, rumours were not entirely unfounded and curious locals were a satisfied lot with outer components of a ship found on the shore.

The part of a ship weighs around 10 tonnes and the scrap value of the part is estimated to be around one lac. Though the locals near the shore tried to draw the object on to the shore, they did not succeed. Now, the object has been harnessed with a rope on to the shore so that it does not move away into the sea.

Those gathered though believe that the component is of the Asian Forest vessel, there is no visible to prove that it belongs to the sunken ship. Ullal Police confirmed that such a component is lying on the shore of Someshwar and the same has been conveyed to the district administration for further action.

It was reported that some 300,000 ltrs of Fuel oil was remaining in ship's tanks when she went down. If the ship breaks up and that oil washed ashore it would be a disaster.

These pieces of metal are the ships hold covers. They will have no oil or diesel in them and should be good for scrap metal.
