its is the drivers mistake but i think it happened bcos the driver went to give way to other bus and there might be a curve there. so wen he saw the omni it became very late to apply brakes.still the police should take action against the driver if it is his fault completely

Shocking and dreadful sight and my heartfelt sympathies and sorrow go to the victims and their families. I regularly travel by the KSRTC and private buses in and around Mangalore whenever I go on holidays and have personally observed that the Drivers are very rash and careless, and always speeding. Reminded me of an another similar accident at Urpel Pade/Gantalkatte (near Moodbidri) recently, which I read in the Daijiworld as well, when the driver of a private bus lost control and overturned, in which quite a few got injured and killed. Needless to mention, the bus was overcrowded and speeding, which was quite usual in that route. I strongly urge the Road Traffic Authorities to strictly enforce and monitor the law with regard to overcrowding and speed limits of all vehicles that ply on all routes in Mangalore and around.

EASY TO GET A DRIVING LICENCE IN INDIA, THE MAIN REASON FOR THE ACCIDENT IS DRIVERS ERROR, LACK OF EXPERIENCE AND CARELESS DRIVING.OVERTAKING ON THE SHARP BENDS.

Apart from good roads, the solution to reckless driving is fairly simple and has been demonstrated to work in some developed countries:

    1. Driver education: Driving licenses in RTO locations are handed out as if it is a right. Driving should be a privilege allowed to a responsible driver who abides by the rules and successfully completes rigorous driving tests. RTO gives driving licenses to people who can warm the officials palms with hard cash.

    2. Consequences: The reckless driver who commits an accident out of sheer negligence and arrogance has no consequences to fear. He is fined and jailed for a couple of days, if at all. Driving negligence should be punished by withdrawing the privilege for the driver to drive on state roads as well as withdrawing the permits of the company that owns the vehicles. There must be serious consequences.

    3. Traffic control: The roads in our state do not have any meaningful signs. If there are signs, the traffic control authorities do not enforce it. Traffic control system is also highly corrupt. One can grease the palms of a traffic authority and get away with anything less than murder.

Very very sad indeed. I agree with Ashraf Habibi, GANGULI/DAMMAMM that parking areas should be allocated along the roads, so that the drivers of the vehicles could park their vehicles at the parking slots instead of parking beside the road. Without looking into the circumstances, we cannot blame the drivers, as it may be the mistake of the Omni driver to park the vehicle beside the road.

This is really a very sad incident. If you look at the other angle the bus driver shocked to see the parked car suddenly on the road, as they stopped the car near the corner of the road. A bus coming in the opposite direction and no space to avoid this car as its sudden appearnce after the turn. This is what exactly happened

Shocking news..! and it is a tragic accident killing four passengers and injuring other two passengers. It appears that Omni car was carrying more than its carrying capacity. We hardly give importance to carrying capacity when we go in the vehicles for long drives. Destiny can not be avoided. But one has to apply his/her mind while stopping the vehicle in NH ways & narrow roads. I feel sorry for the deceased passengers who lost their lives in the accident. May their souls rest in peace. It is of no use in blaming others for our mistakes.

Sad to see. Some years ago there was a general feeling that the Govt vehicle drivers are careful in driving and they do not rush to compete with others. But seeing and other recent tragidies of Airavath at Nellyadi and another mishap at Kankanady only prove that even the Govt vehicle drivers are reckless in driving.
